Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

case44

Remember The Band Sneaker? Where Are They Now?

For the past several days, I've revived an addiction to something that was part of my teenage years, except for the fact that now, I can actually do it over and over again rather than wait for it. Thanks to the auspices of this thing called the internet, I can use YouTube to listen to songs I have not heard in years.

One that came to my mind just the other day was a song that was a big hit for the band Sneaker back in 1981. The song's title is "More Than Just...

Trying To Remember Expiration Dates On Kitchen Items: Is The End Near?

Posted 03-10-2009 at 07:48 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Sometimes, even the best of intentions when getting things prepared can still come short. I can recall the other day when I ordered pizza to be delivered to my apartment for a friend and I, and the man who delivered didn't drop off any grated parmesan to sprinkle on our pizza. So I went to my trusty refrigerator and had not one, but two small containers of Kraft Parmesan contained within. As I picked up each container, I looked at each one to check the expiration dates to see if...

The Case Reveals His Doctor's Report

Posted 03-03-2009 at 07:12 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Okay, C-D'ers. This is your friendly neighborhood correspondent with a little tidbit to add to his autobiography, if and when something like that gets written. I took a little trip to the doctor's office not too long ago and had my six-month cholesterol check and, last weekend, got some surprising results back in the mail from him. Considering I didn't know how I did all this to get the results I ended up getting, this Texas critter was speechless. There's good speechless and...

Landscaping Legendary Lubbock: Reshaping West Texas

Posted 02-28-2009 at 07:50 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)
Updated 03-07-2009 at 08:08 PM by case44

[This is the third installment in a series of blogs about a West Texas city I really care about: Lubbock.]

I've shared previously about a West Texas city called Lubbock and the vision that I have in reshaping, re-energizing, and reimaging this legendary mecca of West Texas lore. In various posts of the past on our beloved City-Data, I have read about how people have poked fun at or blasted this place because they thought it "was bland, had no aesthetics, no trees",...

The Big Hand And The Little Hand

Posted 02-05-2009 at 03:15 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Hey, City-Data friends! What time is it??

[chorus of many voices]

It's time to talk about clocks on Case's Column.

Indeed, I want to spend a little time with you about something that I haven't exactly counted as a hobby of sorts, but just an item that adds to the ambience of living in an apartment or house. In virtually every room in my abode, I have a clock in each one. Different kinds of clocks abound in the House of Case. You might...
