Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

What Are You Doing This Summer?

Posted 06-28-2008 at 01:18 PM by case44

First of all, what am I doing this summer?? You mean, besides typing away endlessly at my computer while trying to make more posts on City-Data.com?? Well, I just completed a little vacation that I took in Southeast Texas. I ventured off to Galveston, and then on to Katy for a total of six days of nothing but RRSE (that's Rest, Relaxation, Sightseeing, and Eating). That sounds like the thing to do in the summertime. Now, with these gas prices at millionaire proportions, that is going to be all the traveling I'm going to do for a while. I think I spent more money on gasoline than I did on food, which would be an achievement for me.

It was a fantastic time of food and fun. The weather cooperated about 80 percent of the time. The waves at the beaches of Galveston were about as great as you can imagine. It was especially great being in a hotel where you can see the water directly from my room on the sixth floor at the Hilton on Seawall. Add to all of that the majesty of the Houston skyline, great food, and the Astros marching to victory on the baseball diamond. Let me say it was worth being away from work for. But on Monday, June 30, that all comes to an end when I head back for work. But, you know what? Trips like the one I just took make life and work that much more worthwhile.

So what are you doing this summer??

This summer I moved and have dedided to look for a job in a different career field. I've been working in hotels/resorts for 9 years and I'm just about burned out.

Packing up my house and readying myself for the BIG move to Austin! Glad to hear you had a wonderful vacation. I am not looking forward to the gas prices when I drive to Texas!

In PA, you may have had higher prices, and if they were, then Texas will be a relief for you.

It will be a little less for you here in Texas, but not much. Dallas has the highest prices, Houston has some of the lowest, and Austin is somewhere in between.

First of all, Case44, let me congratulate you on your successful blog! Interesting reading. I have taken most of June off and have to go back to work on July 3. It was a nice time off, and I got a little feeling of what retirement might be like--if I ever retire. You can probably tell by the number of posts I've made on the CD forums this month that I either need a hobby OR need to keep working.

Thank you, James. Come back often. And you don't need a hobby. You've got this.
