My Assuming Friend

Posted 09-26-2013 at 01:08 PM by Fortoggie

Bet you have a friend are too like this, maybe more. Have you noticed how many people assume things? That means that they accept without verification, they jump to conclusions, usually because they work on the premise that they understand things quicker and better than anybody else.
We were having coffee the other morning and after hearing his stories I said that I was watching this documentary last night and it was saying... that's about as far I got before he jumped in, assuming that he knew all about that subject [ though he had not watched the program ], since he missed the point entirely, it ticked me off.
Look I said, it took these people more than a year to get all this information together and you only allowed me about 10 seconds to bring it up and now you are telling me what you think it was all about and what it means. Do you know how presumptuous that sounds, I asked.
That set him back for that conversation but only until next time. Within a week he will be back with his strong assumptions, once again never thinking that he might have the wrong take on the subject.
It reminds me of the old saying; " When you assume it makes an-ass -out-of-you-and-me."
