Mental illness in the Church

Posted 12-15-2014 at 12:24 PM by Fortoggie

Mental illness is prevalent in the church. Why? Because it is prevalent in the human race. It can be caused by fever, injury, heightened by circumstances and/or birth defects. Every church that I have ever been connected with has had individuals and/or families dealing with some aberration of the human mind. Many times I have been able to identify a problem and help the individual find help. How is your church addressing this common problem?
A few churches here and there have psychologists on staff and by their very presence they recognize the widespread problem and have provided for some help.
However many of the smaller churches, serving the poorer communities still look on mental illness as demon possession or some spiritual condition and thus fail not only to find help for the person but sometimes make things even worst.
