Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Scattershooting/A Very Clever Ad

Posted 07-27-2008 at 12:22 PM by case44

Every now and then on Case's Column, I might have a few things on my mind instead of just one topic, so I will call these particular visits Scattershooting. This is paying homage to former Dallas Morning News and Dallas Times Herald sports columnist Blackie Sherrod, who coined that term as he went "hither and yon" in his Sunday morning writings. So, right here, I'll plan on being your C-D scattershooter in residence. Now, off we go!

********

Those of you C-D'ers who live in Dallas, did you catch the billboard on the inbound side of Central Expressway just south of LBJ? It features the words in big letters telling us "Your wife is hot." Talk about drawing us in. The fine print below simply says that we need to get some air conditioning. Needless to say, that was an AC ad, but genius, nonetheless.

********

Amid all the talk about Starbucks coffee house locations closing, we actually have one that will be opening its doors very shortly. It's at the Frisco Town Square on Main at Coleman in Frisco, TX. So those of you that worry about Starbucks closing, well, just don't. The economy will come back, and all will be right with the world once again. And we will have that latte available to us.

********

Best thing to do in the morning? Laugh. No kidding. Laughter is just one of those things that takes the stress and anxiety off of you. It actually gives you a clearer mind and much better focus to take on the day's activities.

********

Gas prices are down slightly. I saw $3.72 for regular unleaded in Lewisville. You bet I took advantage......

And the word of the day: clean. I like to keep my hands clean. Maybe a little too clean, since I've been known to wash my hands about 15 to 20 times a day. Yes, it's up there just about every day. Face it. I'm not a huge fan of germs, but I can take solace in the fact that I'm more aware of taking better care of myself, in that regard, than ever before.

And there you are.

At least, I'm glad that new Starbucks locations are still opening, even now.

    Starbucks.......ewwwwwwwww

As a Kiwi, I resent having to pay extra for some decent flavour in my java.

Same in Starbucks in any country, best is in Bangkok.

I agree I'm not fond of Starbuck's. I've never been to NZ and have not tried the one in Bangkok but the ones in NYC I've been to are terrible.

Changing gears, when I wrote this blog, did y'all notice the part where I talked about gas prices? Amazing how things have changed in just a few short months.

But you mentioned Starbuck's first. People just haven't worked their way down to the gas prices yet.

I saved your list of grilling ideas to my favorites for safe-keeping. It'll come in handy when spring arrives.
