Stevie Wonder "As"

Last night was our celebratory night out for our anniversary. The plans were all set that Steve the cab driver would pick us up at 7 P.M. and bring us out Chapman Highway to Ye Old Steakhouse. A restaurant that has been in business for over 42 years and has a reputation for some awesome potato recipe. We didn't have a reservation as they don't take reservations for parties under 8. So we were winging it hoping we wouldn't have a long wait for a table. Bill's mouth was drooling all day for some great beef. 7 P.m. arrives and no Steve, so I called him and found out he had been delayed, he arrived around 8:30. He kept assuring us that he had been in touch with the restaurant and we would get a table no problem. We weren't worried. If that place fell threw, there were other places to go. We pull up in front of the restaurant about 8:30, Steve hops out opens my door, then opens the trunk and takes out a bottle of Champagne for us to have with dinner. We were very touched by his thoughtfulness with the champagne. He walks us into the restaurant tells the hostess he is Steve from the cab company and its our anniversary.
We are led to a table and a waitress gets our salad dressing preferance, another waitress takes the bottle of champagne and puts it in a ice bucket and opens it. We are soaking up the ambiance of the place, toasting ourselves and sipping champagne. I look at Bill and marvel how lucky we are to live such a charmed life. The champagne was so unexpected but appreciated and the service with 2 waitresses was nothing to overlook either.
Dinner was served and I had a slab of Prime Rib that was about a inch and a half thick, served with their famous Woodshed Potatoes and an awesome Horseradish sauce. Bill had a T bone and Woodshed Potatoes. We dove into the food and instantly were in heaven. Never have I tasted something as delicous as my dinner, the Prime Rib melted in my mouth. I ate about 1/4 of it then wrapped it up to bring home. I was comfortably full.
We had been tossing the idea around about sharing a dessert, when the waitress came over with a plate with 2 small Red Velvet cakes in the shape of hearts on the plate. She tells us it is anniversary cake. It was warmed and I instantly declared it better then Litton's Red Velvet cake. Bill and I fed one another a mouthful of cake(aaawwww) and said we waited a year to do that and have a wedding feast but it was worth the wait. By then Steve was back to get us and we paid and left to go to our next destination.
For three years we have wanted to check out Sassy Ann's House of Blues in downtown Knoxville. There was supposed to be live music by a local band we had never heard of. So on the way from the restaurant Steve gave us an abbreviated tour of Downtown. We saw Market Square, Old City and of course historic 4th and Gill. We pulled up to Sassy Ann's and showed our ID and went right in. We found a table that was positioned near the door with two overstuffed club chairs. We grabbed that table, ordered our drinks and sat back and just people watched. We were the oldest 2 in the place, the crowd demographics was definitely the UT crowd. Within 10 minutes I leaned over to Bill and said "I feel old", he agreed he did too. There wasn't a band but a DJ playing 80's music.I asked Bill, "when did I grow up? How did that happen?" I can remember being those kids ages not to long ago and I can vividly remember my clubbing days, also not that long ago. So Bill settled in for some serious people watching and reading body language, a hobby he rarely gets to partake in. Me, I just watched everyone and kept putting the thought out of my mind that I was old suddenly. Perspective is such a strange beast at times.
Suddenly it struck me how aimless those kids all were, how they had little self confidence and they were trying to act cool and hide the fact that they weren't there hoping to end up with someone to go home with. I saw quite a few guys chatting up a girl and suddenly they were like octopusses, all hands all over the girls. I found their attempts amusing and I looked at the graying hair guy I had arrived with and I smiled at him and silently thanked the cosmos for giving him to me and saving me from having to enter the dating scene. Of course we were dinosaurs in there, but that didn't stop me from being thankful I was there with my husband and realizing that I'll happily grow old by his side and we belonged together as one anothers missing puzzle piece.

Wow, your anniversary celebration sure turned out really special! It's always wonderful when a night like that surpasses expectations with a few little surprises thrown in like the campaign and the heart cake. Glad you had a good time.

Once in a while I get the urge to go "clubbing" too but we would stick out like someone's great-grandparents there to check up on the young folks. LOL

Your career is calling.
