Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

Texas - OU Moving To The SEC Will Need Some Getting Used To
Posted 08-30-2021 at 08:00 PM by case44
Don't believe that it's not about money.
It is.
And don't get used to tradition, either.
If you're the Big 12 Conference, well, there hasn't been a whole heck of a lot of tradition since it began in 1996. There have been some great games and great memories along the way, but there had not been enough time for tradition, except for maybe those in-state rivals. Speculation is still scattered and varied in regards to the conference's future, but this we do know: The Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners will be leaving the Big 12 and headed for the elite and publicity-heavy Southeastern Conference (SEC).
Whatever the outcome, the marquee rivalry of the conference is going to be gone. Oh, the PAC and AAC conferences are flirting with many of the remaining Big 12 members in hopes that they would join their conference. Not sure yet if the transition for Texas and OU will be next year, the year after, the one after that, or, at the latest, 2025.
SEC or bust??
Big 12 eating their dust??
I was actually hoping for two new teams to join the conference and for it to get a new name. Big Central would have worked just fine. As it is, we will need to enjoy at least one more year of Big 12 sports.
What may be the end of an all-too-short journey begins this weekend. We'll soon see where it goes from there.

The latest is that BYU, Cincinnati, Central Florida, and Houston will be invited to join in UT’s and OU’s place, at least until 2025(?)
Not sure beyond that.
Tech FB did take care of business tonight against UH, in front of a mixed crowd that included what sounded like a loud Red Raider contingent on the TV, in spite of the game being on the opposite side of the state at the Houston Texans’ NFL stadium. The Goin’ Band was there in full force, as was #15 for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Next weekend, Tech’s home opener against Stephen F. Austin will feature a pre-game performance by a man named Shaquille O’Neal. (You might have heard of him.)
After that, they play another home game against Florida International (enrollment: 58,000)Posted 09-05-2021 at 12:22 AM by shoe01

Fantastic picture of last night of the Tech band. Would post so that it shows up, except that it could take up the whole screen:
