Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken.
Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Memory Lane: Remember Kim Mitchell's "Go For Soda" From The 1980s?
It's amazing, the things you end up hearing on 80s on 8 that you haven't heard in a good many years. I probably should listen to it more often since the first part of the decade served, technically, as the soundtrack of my high school years. Just saying.
What I thought was the quintessential 1980s rock song...............turns out to be a one-song wonder in the U.S. for a Canadian artist. Oh, he had some hits in his native Canada, but one song played on the radio for a little bit by the time I got out of high school. Lo, and behold, yesterday on SiriusXM 80s on 8 (as of this writing, of course), I heard this song play. It didn't make number one in Canada, and it was certainly good enough to better than that, but it most definitely didn't make it into Casey Kasem's Top 40 here in the States. This wasn't even what I'd call a one-hit wonder, but rather, a one-song wonder. After I'd heard it, it had to have been at least three decades since the last time I heard it play.
The song in question is Kim Mitchell's almost-classic, "Go For Soda", and it was a very fine rock song for its time. Middle of 1984, and certainly worthy of, at least, a Top 20 berth on the American charts. Good drum track, as well as great vocal harmonies and some decent guitar licks. As I just said, it didn't even crack the Top 40. It could have made it to number one if only eighty-five other songs didn't get in the way. 
Oh, well. Win some and lose some. Take a listen on YouTube sometime if you don't think that tune rocks.
Kim Mitchell should be proud, anyway. If a song can live forever in 80s on 8 lore, then anyone can write a hit song.
