The Snake Handlers

Posted 01-20-2014 at 11:33 AM by Fortoggie

The year was 1951 and I witnessed my first snake handling service. It was on the band box on the court house square. The folks came in from, Dolly Pond over in Hamilton county. There was music and singing and then I noticed wire cages with Rattle Snakes inside. After some preaching, shouting and a whole lot of moving around they began to take the snakes out and let them move around their arms etc. From time to time the snakes would bite them but they survived. However the next year there was one...

Superbowl Bound

AFC Champions for the 2013 season, Denver Broncos. Not the game I anticipated. I expected/hoped it was going to be a closer battle, but Tom Brady did not bring his best game to the Mile High Stadium and the New England defense allowed way to many first downs! As always, you can't discount the ability of the Patriots in the fourth quarter, but it was to little, to late. Peyton Manning orchestrated two drives that took up nearly one whole quarter of the game! Very impressive!! It's hard to keep...

Sunday ~~ January 19, 2014 ~~ How do you keep things tidy in your home?

Posted 01-19-2014 at 09:46 PM by CSD610

An odd thought I suppose to some however, this thought crossed my mind this evening when I was putting away dishes. I do certain things when other things are in the process of being brewed, boiled, baked, broiled or fried.
In the kitchen anyway since I don't do any of the things listed in any other room in our home. For example: while my coffee is brewing I will wash the dishes and I mean actually wash the dishes with my two hands. We do not have a dishwasher and have never had a dishwasher...

The land of Grump

Posted 01-19-2014 at 09:41 AM by grumptacular

I really enjoy my property. Not so much my house, it's just a house, but my property is a like a paradise to me. I live on four and a half acres on the edge of the city limits. All the wild life that used to live all around the area has been pushed out to where I live, along with my neighbors properties. I have deer, skunk, fox, raccoon, snakes, occasionally coyotes, screech owls. It's beautiful and tranquil and while I can see the neighbors houses in the winter when all the foliage is gone,...

Sex, Death, and Phone Book Delivery

This past fall has seen me go down a long, slow slide into financial oblivion. The wolf which normally sits at my door has been joined by an entire pack, and the local animal control officer added insult to injury when he cited me for allowing my “pets” to run loose with no collars and no rabies tags. Only in Manitou... Anyhow, I needed to get my hands on some cash if only to buy a little hamburger to throw at my new friends and pay for their tags, so they could freely wander off and sit...
