What a silly thread that was probably made and continued by trolls. Not everyone (or even the mass majority) of people on the continet bleach their skin or try to change their natural features. SMH. Some people within some countris do these un healthy practices, but not all of Africa does it.
but based on american history wouldn't most american blacks be mixed?
Yes, but the typical American black is overwhelmingly African, not as much as Haitians and Jamaicans, but the average African American has over 70% of his genes originating in Africa while in other areas (mainly in the major cities such as NYC) the typical African American is closer to the mulatto type than the black type. In some parts of the US its quite common for African Americans to register over 90% of their genes originating in Africa. This is based on DNA studies I have seen.
When it comes to Latin America, especially in Spanish-speaking countries and in Brazil, the averages ranges from an average of roughly 40% African admixture among Dominicans, 20% among Puerto Ricans, and most Afro-Brazilian tend to have mostly European genes. I forgot the percentage, but it was somewhere along the lines of 20 to 30% African admixture, the rest being European and/or Native.
These percentages are on a per person average. This is also visible by seeing what the average Afro-descended people of each place looks like, with the areas with the darkest people being the areas where African genes makes up the vast majority of the genome of the average person.
I think the countries in the Western Hemisphere have the most racially mixed people in the world. Elsewhere, such as in Africa itself or in Europe/Asia, most people tend to be overwhelmingly one race, in most cases almost exclusively one race or their genes originate in one place.
This is why I say that racism in the Western Hemisphere is a joke! Almost everyone is mixed with something. Not that its OK for people in other continents to be racist, but at least whomever is racist will not be discriminating themselves. LOL
Anyway, you can check out the admixture average for various populations worldwide, including some African populations, in this document published in 2012. This is based on actual DNA tests: SNP Admixture 2012
If you check the document I linked in post #95, you will notice that the African American community that has been tested, are only around 77% African. The rest of the DNA is made up of European/Native American blood, for the most part.
This means that while the average African American is overwhelmingly African, they are not just African.
For example, if you look at the African populations that have been tested (and are there in the document I cited), quite many of them are 100% African and a few are less than 100%, but overall much more African than the typical African American.
Mixed people have ancestry of more than one race. Biracial people have parents of different races.
Beyonce is mixed. President Obama is biracial.
Good way to put it and the first isn't exclusive to folks that identify as Black.
