And I can't tell you how reassured I am by the content and details of the posts I have seen thus far about this issue, that I can continue to expect market availability of wild salmon during my lifetime.

Yeah I think I'm gonna go to the market tomorrow and buy up the rest of the Yakutat silvers they have in stock. 'Course, I don't know how to preserve it other than freezing...

We are doing the best that we can. I doubt that you have any idea of how tough it is. Sorry if we've "failed to reassure you" but the fact is that we just don't know. I guess we could lie and blow a bunch of BS at you and the rest of the consumers.

I can only tell you this. The market availability will be good for at least the next three years.

Beyond that...we just don't know. Maybe it will all be gone soon. But it won't be the fault of those of us who've given our lives to the wild salmon industry.

Sorry we can't provide you with better answers. A larger processor would lie through their teeth to tell you what you want to hear...I won't.

What I can tell you is that we just made history in SE Alaska...biggest run ever.

Next year's sockeye run is still deep in the ocean between SE and Japan.

We'll see.

Right now our Government is saying there is nothing to worry about. The risk to our Salmon is "low". We should be OK.

Sounds like we are screwed.

Upon further review...depends on how old you are.

This thing will affect the farmed fish first and I do get some consolation from that.

I doubt that it will kill the wild runs but it does have the capacity to greatly reduce them. It's salmon flu, basically. It'll take a couple of years at least for this thing to get to Alaskan waters. It'll drive up the price and some people will go out of business.

At worst. At best may not affect the wild runs much at all. Farmed fish are naturally much weaker and have compromised immune systems.

Much depends on how the virus (there's no "if" involved, it will) mutates.

Sity, keep in mind when talking about the Japanese radiation that salmon mature in deep waters.
