Hmmmm, I think I like that those words put it nicely.

Default Skiing Alaska Style

Watched this person yesterday up on Hatcher Pass, Skiing Alaska Style.
If you look close in the first photo, you can see another person climbing, he is to the left and close to the edge of the shadow from the drift.
Also looks like some volcanic ash is under the drifted snow.

Here he is up close

Here he goes...

Yep, that was me, called a Bump Jumper, a single runner with a "stool" type thing to sit on, sort of.
I've been wanting to take it out, but it's lots more fun with there is more than one riding. I do have two though, anyone? Rance?, you'll be up this way next Wednesday.

There were quite a few small snow slides, avalanche's, all about. Guess it doesn't stop these people. We saw a lot of people climbing in different areas.

When I lived in Valdez years ago, where the Coast Guard Housing is at, about this time in the spring, you could hear the avalanches up Mineral Creek, sounded like thunder in the quiet of night. Every so often someone would get nailed by an avalanche up in Thompson Pass too.

Hope those skiers have location devices in the event that snow gives way...

Great photos too! Upside is that if you do catch the avalanche on film, could make you a pretty penny...
