Sam 64,
I am just chiming in now on your thread, because I just found this forum yesterday.....
Very similar family circumstances happened in our family over 50 years ago! My parents DID move up to AK, and we've been here ever since. In retrospect my folks feel that it is what has made all the difference in their lives. If you read the bible, it can be compared to the "promised land" you can't be afraid of the "giants in the land". There are many obstacles, but all worth working through. Your life will be much richer for your moving forward in faith.

I am a firm believer that the 'road' or airline goes BOTH ways! They can come to visit you too. Just one trip and they wouldn't press you so hard!

Just so you know, the prices have increased in the bush a lot since you were there! The cost of living is NOT keeping up, and you may think about looking for work like one poster suggested, around Talkeetna, Trapper Creek, Willow, or on the Kenai.......

The Matanuska Susitna School District is the contact about every town I listed except Kenai.....all these have the rural bush feel, but the cost of living is better, and the "political climate" is more pleasant than village life. They all have elementary schools and/or middle school-high schools.

I know you are set now, but just keep this in mind....

Thanks Susitna-Flower! We are definitely going back on faith....we've been in prayer about getting back up to AK since we had to leave it last summer and feel God has indeed opened the doors for us to return. Our main obstacle has been all the negativity from our family about going back. I am happy to report that all are in the "acceptance stage" now- they know we are going back and no amount of guilt-trips or hateful comments are going to keep us here. Only 28 more days!!!!

23 days, Sam, not long. Some time ago I wrote you about that Minnesota couple, Ruby and Len, who moved to Mexico. After reading and answering your post I did a lot of digging in old papers and like 15 phone calls later I had Len on the phone. They are both as happy as pigs in mud down there and the kids just live with it. Len even started (just now) a new business without really wanting to: he had lots of questions about his MZKT truck and one word led to another and someone asked him if he could find a 4x4 (!) BUS. Lol. So I put him in touch with PAZ in Russia and now he is in the process of importing 2 units into Mexico ! For customers. I am happy for them.
Their kids, now, have finally realized that their parents have the right to have their own life too.
So leave the guilt trips and other obnoxious pressures for the masochists.

I am no-one, Sam, but I really wish you both the bestest of luck and happiness !

Takeo.

I find this thread fascinating! Shows me how common "families" can be.

We are planning a move to Juneau in a little less than a year. We're doing all the research, house cleaning, etc right now to get ready. All of our friends have said "good for you!". All of our family has said "who said you can just up and do what you want?" Huh?
They're getting a little better, as we gave them a years notice.........but not totally suprised or shocked at their responses. Since 1 of `15 reasons we're doing this is to be a little free from having our chains pulled when they want us
