Thanks

Our state senate gadfly legislator, Lora Reinbold, who has been a PITA regarding wearing a mask, manage to get herself banned from Alaska Airlines. It's the only airline that flies into Juneau (our state capital). Ms. Reinbold was at her home in Eagle River (near Anchorage) when this happened. The legislative session was due to resume in several days.

Apparently, she jumped in her car and drove out of Alaska and through part of Canada to Haines, AK, where she caught a ferry to Juneau (you cannot drive to Juneau). She obviously did not quarantine for 14 days in Canada.

Oh but she's one of the anointed few, not some lowly peon...I'm sure she gave them a sob story that she must be allowed through so vital government business could occur. No Zoom meeting for her!

And we can stop dreaming that Canada will allow us in, vaccinated or not, this summer.

"..Robert Warren, a University of North Dakota professor who previously worked at the University of Manitoba, said the slow vaccine rollout means reopening the border could happen later this year, but not in time for the summer travel season. Oct. 1, Warren said, is a date he’s heard floated about, but he believes that's too optimistic.

“I even think October the first is a dream, but a lot of us would like to see it,” Warren said. “I'm still saying Jan. 1.”

She states she has "new appreciation for the marine ferry system." (She can't even name it properly, despite being on board.)

I call BS, we'll see if that translates into any of her budget caucusing or votes. I'm guessing based on where her constituency is: not one bit. Too bad it didn't sink with her on board.

Update:
I read on another forum from someone who recently drove up to Alaska (Alaskan citizen) that while one is driving to Alaska, one is theoretically under quarantine. You get tested prior to entering and receive a second test kit to be used on day 8 IF you are still in Canada. If you leave before day 8 (as expected), you return the unused kit to the Canadian border officials as you leave. If you plan on staying in hotels, call the Canadian hotel and reserve a room, informing them that you are quarantining and create an itinerary. The Canadian border officials will want to know where you'll be staying so you can then provide them with your itinerary.
