I know what you all going to tell me but they were getting beat up and the insurance were getting up there as well as being gas burners. Since none of the snow tires fit my present 2 wheelers, I sold them w/the vehicles. So now I have 2 2wheelers. My questions is: Are there any restriction anywhere in Alaska where snow chains are not allow? Of course, I plan on a set of snow tires for at least one of the car when my permanent resident is the North country.

We have studded tires. Chains are for the dirt sections or maybe in the passes. But I haven't seen any except on fork lifts and construction equipment.

Thanks Mal. Talking about idiot error, I thought I had a new posting instead being hidden in a sub post. But, hopefully I will get some more reply anyway. I've shopped Sears for some snow tires including studded and rims recently. They want lots of green stuff for a set of 4 even for steel rim. Now, I am shopping junk yard for some rims. Who knows, I may find some used alloys for the price of new steel.

Does anyone else hate the blue/purple/green lights people put on their vehicles?

No problems so far in my daily commutes to Anchorage. The Nokian Hak 5's I put on my AWD Honda CRV are worth their weight in gold. Spending almost my entire life in a cold-weather state was good training and common sense is the biggest advantage.

Boy, I saw more ditch-divers than I could count Tuesday evening after a mere few inches fell during the day. I'll never figure out why these idiot pickup truck drivers think that they can barrel along at warp speed, ignoring the weight imbalance between their front and rear ends, and not end up on their roofs. Not to mention the fools in their ancient rear wheel drive jalopies passing me by at least 20 MPH. Quite frankly, I don't feel the slightest bit sorry for those morons.

Satch,

Akvarmit and I went up to our house in Wasilla on Tuesday and counted 13 cars in the ditch between North Eagle and Birchwood. That was just what we counted in that section.

I do find it odd that the state does not plow and put anti-skid down like the do back in Pa. We didn't see a plow truck until Wednesday morning and they were not even dropping any anti-skid. I guess if they dropped anti-skid everytime it snowed they would break the bank paying for it..

Are you in Alaska-withdrawal? I always have my camera with me, I'm SURE I can take pics for you the next time it snows....don't tell hubby. He may prefer that I keep both hands on the steering wheel. (Not sure why ????)
