Get over it.
Just wondering, if Congress approves a law that will take your guns away (never going to happen), your just going to 'get over it'?

I doubt they will have well over a hundred million gun owners and voters just lay down about it.

As far as the "Assault" weapons being banned, they have been since National Firearms Act of 1934, 26 U.S.C. § 5801 et seq. But "Real" assault weapons can fire on fully automatic, the best that most of us have is a semi-auto that had to have the trigger pulled each time to fire. To have a weapon that can fire on full auto requires a special license that has to be renewed each year and is a pain to deal with.

These guns they call military Assault weapons that we the people own are copies that aren't what the military uses, they just look like it... you might call them "Pretend Assault Rifles".

A real M-16 can has a fire rate of 900 rounds per minute on auto, the AR-15 civilian copy looks just like it, but has a fire rate around about as fast as you can squeeze the trigger, let go and pull again. Even though the clips are the same size, you can switch out an M-16 in seconds and empty them even faster. There is a big difference between an "Automatic" and a "Semi-Automatic" weapon.

Needless to say, this "ban" on Assault weapons is a scam, because they already are for the real ones and have been for years.

I would assume that any Congressman that votes for any gun bans outside of Calif. would be bounced out on his head faster than he could reach to cover his butt...

The NRA isn't just a money grabbing group, they have done more for fighting the right for us to own guns as the Constitution was written than any other groups. They are one of the more powerful lobbies in Washington that keep twisting the arms of those Congressmen that don't seem to remember that they swore to uphold the Constitution that they work for. They have taken to court cities and States that have tried to stamp out your right to own a gun, you don't have to own one, but you have the right should you choose to.

The crooks don't have legal guns to start with, they either got them on the black market like they do drugs, or stole them. The only ones that are affected by bad laws are those that are law abiding.

I completely agree with you on this point. My only problem with guns are the irresponsible gun owners who don't properly educate their children and/or don't have their guns safely stored.

Three Rules

1. It's ALWAYS loaded - even if you just checked, it's ALWAYS loaded.

2. Never point a gun in a direction in which it is not safe to shoot.

3. Never fire a gun without knowing where you intend the bullet to go.

In the military, we were issued ammunition and a weapon, rounds were counted going out and coming in. Weapons were cleared, dry fired into a barrel of sand, and turned in with the chamber open and magazines removed and set alongside of the weapon. If you chambered a round, you needed a real good reason. And if you fired a round beyond practice, God might help you, because a lawyer couldn't unless the ROE said you could fire in that circumstance.

Military Corollary to Rule 3: If you shoot at something or someone, shoot to kill.

well taking the guns away won't stop that. God gave man a brain but unfourtunately he can't make people use it correctly.

Unlicensed people have kids everyday, and kids need a lot more care of them than the guns we need a license for. If you knew how many underqualified parents there are...

I was not qualified to have kids. I still think that I am not the worlld's greatest Dad. Not even in the top 10%. But I made the efforts over the years. I taught my kids gun safety even though we don't have a gun in the house. What? They're never going to see them out fishing in the Kenai? Their friends aren't going to have them in their houses? Gun safety is like teaching swimming, basic birth control, or simple survival skills. You need to know them before you get involved with them. By the time you need to know this stuff, it's too late. You got shot or you're a parent, or you drowned 100 yards off the beach.

The only problem with guns is they're like hammers. If you only own a hammer, all the problems you see look like nails. Guns convey this sense of power, and pulling the trigger feels GOOD. Familiarity with a weapon lessens this feeling of power, and gun safety teaches responsibility. It ought to be taught to every child, because in todays society, they will probably see them in their lifetime.
