Sounds like a good plan and one that is doable.

A cat died under my porch, and when I asked my neighbors in my sub-division if it was their's, they said no. I think it may have been overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of mice and shrews.

I will not tolerate feral dogs or cats. I will euthanize them myself if I catch them on my property.

We have had a lot of truly feral cats in the area to the south of our neighborhood. In the 7 years I have lived here I have killed about 10 of them and they all looked like the same cat! They are dark brown calico-almost black and they have almost wiped out the sharptail grouse population around here.

There are lots of opinions out there, but the bobcats, fox, coyotes, and lions around here belong. The feral cats don't! I've done falconry and the idea that hawks and eagles will wipe them out isn't realistic. I've seen a cat kick a coyote's butt in nothing-flat and they aren't the kind of prey a lion would waste energy gettting.

They do not belong anywhere but in the barn eating mice or in some city slicker's apartment getting fat. If the cat is approachable, take it in and have it put down, if it's not, a .22 round costs less than 2 cents.

This is nice to hear; glad I was able to help.

There is a city-data forum devoted to cats that would be able to offer you helpful and compassionate suggestions that do not involve the use of firearms. . If it were me faced with a stray cat, I would try to lure the cat in with food and take it to a no kill shelter or a foster animal place, if it was not possible to add it to my family. I would also get said animal spayed or neutered regardless of the choice made so that it would not contribute more kitties to the stray cat population.

Don't release cats into the wild in Alaska! The poor, little things will freeze to death. One of my kitties was a rescue kitten found huddled up with her 2 living siblings and a dead sibling and a dead mama in October. This climate is far too harsh for them to survive on their own as strays. Reading some of these posts about dead cats and dead kittens brings tears to my eyes. I know people often think they are doing a favor to release the animal in the wild, but please! It will starve and freeze to death and suffer immensely.
