Ok, I've just spent all evening researching, Jewel Lake, Sand Lake and Independance Park area. I like the looks, now does anyone have any recommendations for apartments in that area? I liked the look of Artic Gardens, Independance Park, Driftwood and Terrace on the Lake. Anyone live near or know anything about these?

We live in an 8-plex right off of Dimond. I looked at a few of the larger complexes and I just didn't like them. If your coming in the off season you might consider staying in a B&B for a week/10 days while you look for something. There are plenty of rentals and you shouldn't have any problem finding something.

When we first moved to Ketchikan we rented a mobile home based on a few pictures taken from the outside. That's the last time I'll ever rent something without seeing it first. That trailer should have been pushed off right into the ocean. The water out of the faucets was a rust color and all the windows had plastic on the inside of them.

Actually I would prefer something smaller, was afraid to do a sight unseen so thought a short term in a larger complex might be safe while I look. I forgot this would actually be off season and I should be able to find a good rate for a B&B! Thanks for a great idea!!! Now, who do most use for internet on that side of town?

GCI has a package where you get a cell phone and you either get the internet free or the cable, one of the two. They don't do that here though.

Congrats...'bout time. If I were you I'd live in Anchorage; much preferable to Whitesilla. Girdwood is good but the commute is pretty bad...Eagle River does get some mountain shadows that can affect the amount of daylight if I'm not mistaken.

There are places close enough to Anchorage where you can go for weekends...drive to Talkeetna and stay at the Roadhouse. You'll probably be up in time for the Bachelor's auction; you should go to that, Lyoness. It's sort of fun in a bizarre way.

Thanks everyone, this is my dream come true (you have no idea!). I guess the big head honcho was out last week so it is drawing out a little longer than my ulcer can deal with. And AK time is much slower than my hyper mind will adjust to easily LOL. I'm thinking I will finally make it up in about 4 wks or so. Met we definately have to go out and paint the town!!
