Relocating to Adirondacks???

Posted Today at 11:32 AM by LeavinNJ321

I am desperately looking for advice. My family and I are considering moving to Adirondacks somewhere near our most loved Lake George. We have vacationed there for the past 18 years and love it up there. We all feel at peace when we are there and hate to leave. I have 3 children 18, 14, and 8. 18 year old will going to college in fall for nursing. Obviously looking for great schools with low crime rate no drug use. Don’t want to be in major metro area but not completely isolated from everyone. Need great town with socialization for kids. Thought about Queensbury but I have read some pretty negative things. Husband is a manager sand mining plant and also does earth work. Land clearing, excavation, grading ect. I would some to talk to other families from the area. Any suggestions??

I still would consider Queensbury. It is pretty much suburbia. Perhaps the South Glens Falls area. Ballston Spa could be another option. Schuylerville could work too.

It may be tough to find a place with no drug use anywhere.

Bottom line is there is drugs everywhere you go. In fact, some towns even have a higher drug rate than suburbs in larger cities.

Default Looking for great place to raise familly NY

What I should have said was maybe limited drug use. I live in what was once a great little suburban town. It it now greatly overpopulated, I pay 1000.00 month just in taxes and the schools are horrible. My children can go to school and get ANY drug they wanted. The kids are snorting, smoking, and injecting anything they get there hands on. Thank god my children are strong and dont do drugs. It just makes me very sad that this is what they have to deal with. I had read that there is much more drug activity in Queensbury and Glens Falls and that the suburban version of the Bloods and Crypts (small kids gangs ) in those areas as well.

I guess places like Warrensburg or Corinth would make you feel more comfortable. I did find that supposedly some gang members have come from NYC, but I'm not sure how serious it is or if they are wannabes that are selling drugs. I wouldn't think that it is something that isn't unavoidable though.

Saratoga area, not necessarily Saratoga Springs, might be a good fit for your family. Not that far from Lake George. Schuylerville schools has a good reputation. Check out several towns in the area (Moreau, Quaker Springs, Northunderland, Schuylerville outskirts, etc.) Also check: GreatSchools - Public and Private School Ratings, Reviews and Parent Community

To add to this, I would still consider Queensbury. Take a trip to the area to get a feel for what it is like and go from there.

Thank you to everyone who responded. I appreciate your advice. Its a big move. I know that finding the perfect town is impossible but it is still a scary thing to pick up a move to a new location considering we really know nothing of the area except Lake George. I tell myself that anything has to be better than NJ.
