We are taking a serious look at three different rental houses from a distance to try to finalize where we will move this summer. I am renting out a room for a few weeks but if I can find a house now, it would save so many headaches later. Our budget is a somewhat limited for renting ($1100 or less) so if one of these is the right fit after I do more research, I want to grab the chance while I can.

The first house is 2 miles straight west of Cibola High and about 19 miles across the city from the VA where I will be working. Would that commute be really bad? My son loves skateboarding so this one is attractive also due to being within a couple of miles of a skatepark.

The second house is in the near northeast, I think it is Sandia High, (Eubank and Snow Heights), we like the thought of being closer to my job for this one.

The last house is in Los Lunas.

Thanks!

Your commute will be Much Less than 45 minutes. I drive slow, I leave early etc. I live in Rio Rancho, when I use to go the the VA Hospital (and pass the area you speak of) it always took less than 45 minutes to get to the VA, parked and in the building.

Going back can be a bit longer, afternoon traffic jams...

I'm familiar with the skate park, been wanting to go out and take some photo's there.

The other area, I have no real experience commuting through. But it is on the correct side of the Rio Grande, so you have more road choices...

In the area you describe, Eubank is the boundary between Sandia and Manzano.
(West of Eubank = Sandia, east of Eubank = Manzano)

Of the options you list, I would definitely favor the NE Heights spot. While Manzano HS is fine, I would personally lean toward landing in the Sandia HS district.

And if skate parks are a high priority, the largest one in the state is located about 1.5 miles south of Snowheights/Eubank (Los Altos Skate Park (http://www.cabq.gov/recreation/skate.html - broken link)).
