I was up in Rockford, IL over labor Day and went to a bar and asked the waitress what they had that is more local. I had an IPA to start and one friend asked how it was. I had a funny thought, as i answered it was a standard IPA by a local brewery. Not amazing, not bad...and then I said the funny part. I said it is like a commodity. I never thought of craft IPAs as commodities, but the IPA space is becoming that. Just more expensive commodities. There are obviously a few that are different, but the vast majority are very similar.
I'm going to amend my lager/pils post for failing to mention the always reliable Eliot Ness (Vienna lager) and Dortmunder Gold (Export lager) from Great Lakes Brewing. Ness has slightly more ABV than I'd like at 6.2, but tasty and refreshing. Dortmunder is very easy drinking. I tend to forget GLBC - and everything they make is great - because it's always available here (and for less than $10/six!). We always seem to neglect the greatness in our own backyard when looking for something better.

Good statement at the end. There are good beers that are all around us that are taken for granted. Great Lakes makes some really nice beers.
Brew Kettle's White Rajah IPA is my favorite IPA...which is my favorite style.
