I drank a lot of beer in my younger days.
Since I looked older, I got served nearly every place once I hit 16.

Times were different in early 60's.

Not much stigma on drunk driving or underage drinking unless you hit another car and killed someone.

Times have changed but its not fair to judge behavior of nearly 60 years ago by TODAY's standards.

Same holds true when judging politicians or bringing up their past.
Judge their past by the "standards" of THAT time.....NOT by TODAY's standards.

Heck and I may have already answered this: I drank in college like most of us and no, I don't regret it. I didn't drink much but yes, I did drink. In fact, at the time I was going to the U of Colo 3/2 beer was legal at 18 Friday nights it was off to one of clubs so we could buy pitchers of beer and dance the night away.

It's been 2 years now.

Congratulations on quitting!

My wife quit drinking 6 months ago. She's 63 and has been drinking and smoking since she was a teen. I didn't really know how much she drank until she moved in with me 20 years ago. It wasn't a big problem at the time -- she became boring later in the evening -- but she always drank mostly beer so seldom got falling-down drunk. But 6 months ago she found herself in the hospital, lungs, heart and probably liver going downhill rapidly. Her doc said if she didn't quit smoking and drinking she wouldn't last a year. So she quit them both. Now she's drinking again, not as much as before, but it's alcohol that she shouldn't be drinking. That tells me she's an alcoholic, if you can't stop when the doctor says you either stop or die.

I drank at age 18 in Tennessee because I was in the Army and it was legal for (underage) soldiers to do so off post. Not sure if it still is. This was 1984-1985.

It's different for me because I'm an alcoholic. I experimented when I was 12. Maybe younger. Drinking for me was on my dad's side. I raided their cabinet. But no i don't regret it.

How did she know the signs of liver damage? Other medical signs?

No why would I regret it? No guilt here. No shame, no guilt.

Why in God's name would I care about something I did over 50 years ago.

Hell, I grew up in a bourbon family

The drinking age was 18 when I was in high school, but I was drinking beer at 16. My only regret is the brand of beer my oldest brother got at the exchange on base, Falstaff in cans, not aluminum. I won't drink beer from a can anymore.
