can anyone recommend a red wine that is very sweet? i've been trying to find a red wine because of the resveritol that is reported to be good for you, but, most seem very dry or bitter to me. any suggestions? i really like anything by arbor mist but i've been told that it isn't really wine. or as someone phrased it "it's the soda pop of wine".
I posted a link above to Fantasia. The thing is , you can only buy it at the winery in Napa Valley or order online. But, they have a 6 bottle minimum if you order online. It's more rose than red, but not white and very, very sweet.
This was my table wine for the winter. Protocolo Tinto 2004 I purchased it for $5.99 a bottle
One of my favorites, too! When I lived in Alabama I paid about 8 or 9 dollars a bottle at Fresh Market, but in Tennessee buying wine at the liquor store only = paying more per bottle I would say that I stock up when I go to Alabama to visit my grandson, but since I think that is against the law (transporting?) I won't
Martin Codax Albarino ($12) for white wine and for red wine I like Bethel Heights Pinot Noir not exactly cheap to some people, but its worth $25 dollars.
I don't have a favorite. There are too many great wines out there, and the choice depends on pairing, anyway. When I go to buy wine, I look for value on good-quality wines. Some wines are horribly overpriced (I could just never "get" what the fuss over Pommard is all about), but you can find excellent wines at reasonable prices, too. Portugese wines are an especially good choice in that regard.
Any particular fav types, eg Cabs or Chardonneys etc?
For reds I've been getting into Malbecs lately. Course Cabs and Merlots tend to be reliable when in doubt, shiraz's (sp?) also.
Whites, most Chards I don't like. Prefer a Reisling or Pinto Grigio.
But really I'll try just about anything, minus the obvious ie what I call "teenager" wines like Mad Dog etc. In fact IMO there are many decent inexpensive wines out there. eg I recently had someone turn me on to Jacobs Creek - only about $6/bottle.
Yes I have tried "2 buck Chuck" (now it's about $4). The Chard ironically wasn't bad IMO but the Cab was terrible, and it's not easy for me to really dislike a Cab.
