Sigh. After checking our profile, they've got a few very important facts wrong (inflated number of beds and baths and square foot living area) so we will have to get that all straightened out. $3800 for a 700 sft 1 bedroom, 62 year old house? I don't think so.

WHOA!! Ours is less then that with a much bigger house! You better do some digging. (is your land more valuable?)

Possibly. It's slightly larger than average and zone multi-family. Still seems pretty pricey tax for what's here, rather than what might be here.

I think it's too late to protest this year, but next year, some noise is getting made. Big time.

You always protest the year that it happens. You might not get the adjustments pro-rated until next year but don't let this go! They did an erroneous valuation-make them fix it.

I got addresses of anything in our general area that was remotely a comp in terms of size, age and condition and did a side by side comparison of property valuations and final tax bills. Although values were all over the map in terms of lot and structure valuations when comparing apples to other apples, it seems that we are right there in the higher end of the middle of the pack in terms of taxes to be paid. I will correct the incorrect data that the city has but I don't hold out much hope that it will substantially change our tax bill. Good grief.

Could it be that you've done quite well regarding your taxes in past years and it's finally caught up?
