Are there many law enforcement jobs in Alaska? I have a little over 20 years experience. Looking to relocate in a few years. Thanks.

Anchorage and Alaska State Troopers do recruit from outside the state quite often.
Pay is higher up here, but so is the cost of living.
Check their respective websites for more details - it might be a good opportunity.

Also consider Fish & Game if you're looking for wildlife enforcment. Not so outsider friendly, but a nice job for a sportsman with your experience.

It's time consuming to find jobs at www.usajobs.gov

usa jobs have law enforcement and wildlife jobs, Alaska. I was able to have direct feedback and Job offer too. it's wise to keep up your profile and do every on line applications that matches your profile. its worth the time. less than two months usa jobs should come up with job offers. like i said its worth the time if you have good profile with experiance. remember to copy down direct contact phone numbers and names with each on line application. easy to call back for any questions if your on the top list for that job. I turned down job offer because it was at the wrong time. I was working at Grand Canyon. yes indeed.

Most Alaska police departments don't have upper age limits like some in the lower 48 do. You might consider looking at a smaller department to get your foot in the door and get your APSC certification.

If you have good solid experience without a lot of job hopping and your in GOOD physical shape then your best bet would be AST over APD. I've known them to take rookies that were past age 50.

Default Service revolvers in the cold

Yes, revolvers work in the cold. Matter of fact, semi-autos have much smaller moving intricate parts that can cold weather seize before a revolver will.

I qualified in Barrow when the temps were about -30 degrees with my S&W 686 back in the early 80's. The only difficult part was reloading while wearing gloves. It took a while to master that. Revolver functioned fine.
