I've heard that it's a great place to live, but I've also heard that it's ridden with drugs. What is the housing market like? I've looked at some real estate and am amazed at how cheap housing is. Then again, where I live currently it's not uncommon to see homes selling for over $500k. How is the job market? I'm 20 and will be moving with my dog. What is there to do in Kingman? I love to hike and I know Kingman is surrounded by mountains. What are temperatures like? How much snow falls in the winter? I live in NJ right now and I'm trying to move away from the constant snow. How long does it take to drive to the Grand Canyon and Death Valley? Lastly, I have a deathly fear of snakes. How often are snakes seen in Kingman? Sorry for all the questions and thanks for any help!

last year i worked in arizona for quite a bit- maybe 3-4 months or so? i loved every part of arizona, except kingman. it's a small town with nothing to do. nothing really scenic there. to me, it seems a little more run down and poorer than your average national town.

No, Kingman is not overridden by drugs. Even pot is a felony and that's heavily enforced. I lived there for 5 years and never had any experiences that brought me in contact with drugs. So how'd you happen to pick Kingman, given that you seem not to know the first thing about it?
Grand Canyon is about 2 1/2 hours away, and Death Valley is about 4 1/2 hours.

Kingman is not a bad place to live. It can be windy at times and it snows maybe 2-3 times a year but is gone in a day or two. It does not get super hot in the summer and there are places to hike in the mountains. As for jobs im not sure but im sure if you wanted to work I would think you could find a basic job. Yes houses are cheap.
Its not a bad area.

Well you have the basics of liking the outdoors hiking etc.yes for a 20yo we don't have a lot of options but Vegas is close

You'd be pretty close to halfway between the Grand Canyon and Death Valley. Winter is much milder than New Jersey. Quite a bit to do in the area if you include Laughlin, NV and the Colorado River. You aren't going to find much in the way of high paying jobs however.

Maybe not ridden per se, but we do have our occasional busts like with any city. The druggies seem to keep closer to their areas like butler and birdland and the shanty areas downtown. At one point not too long ago it did get pretty bad when beggars were stalking people outside supermarkets, convenience stores, and wal-mart begging for money with the sob story of hungry kids and homelessness. I remember one that tried to sell me Walmart Cards that's "never been used" for money hahaha.
Back when I didn't have a car, I would run into them on occasion but it never escalated to a fight or nothing, but I don't know if they've become hostile due to the bad economy.
Unless I'm really under a rock here, I don't see alot of job opportunities other than unskilled labor and CNA. The hospital seems to be the place to be if you want a decent job with a decent wage. Speaking from experience growing up as a youth I see Kingman as more of a Good Ol Boys town. Not a lot for the youth unless you're into skating, I see skaters do tricks around the Stockton Hill parts near Safeway to Walmart though the skaters are junior high to early HS age. Many 20 somethings move away or settle down at this point. This town could really benefit from a rec center (Wellness doesn't count.), or dare I say a night club type setting that's not western themed. Time Out Tavern isn't big enough for the 21 crowd and from what I've been told lately it's becoming a bit of a dive now.
As for jobs, I don't know what type of work you're looking for but if you're in the medical field you have a good shot at KRMC or at a nursing home facility. Don't see much in the way of decent administrative work unless it's receptionist. If anything, stay for a few days in Kingman and see if it's right for you. If not, Lake Havasu or even Bullhead City might be more of your thing. Lake Havasu for the psuedo California lifestyle or Bullhead because you are just a stone throw away from the casinos in Laughlin!
Weather, if there is one thing that Kingman is great at... it's good weather. Sure it snows at least once per winter, sometimes you may not see snow until Febuary. Summers aren't too hot, Winter isn't too cold. It rains, and it's usually a few inches just be sure to avoid driving in dips when it really pours.
Hiking? You'll really love it here. The Hualapais would be your mistress in this sport. I don't know what type of restrictions are there for hikers if there are any, but there are plenty of mountains to climb. If you're concerned about snakes, try not to hike in the middle of summer. Snakes can hide out and take a nip at your ankles if you get careless.
