Slinky,

Please visit for at least a week before you accept the position. I agree with an earlier post stating AZ needs more educated and professional young people. But Kingman is nothing like any part of the big cities on the east coast. If you are looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle, I would suggest Phoenix, Tempe, or Scottsdale. These are bigger cities but have the laid back lifestyle of AZ. Kingman and the surrounding mountains are asthetically beautiful but offer little for a young professional.

Please don't take my above statement as me disliking AZ. I love it there and would move back in a heartbeat. I am a native and miss my home state so much. But my wife did not share my passion so we moved to DC. After living in DC, I learned what a big vibrant city is like. Nowhere in AZ, not even Phoenix, offers a big city lifestyle like those of the east coast.

I wish you luck in your decision. If you enjoy open space, beautiful sunsets, a laid back lifestyle, and a slow pace, Kingman or anywhere in AZ will work for you. If you want typical yuppie amenities, a vibrant urban core, mass transit, etc., I would recommend avoiding AZ.

If you need additional information, feel free to send me a PM.

I've read a few other threads about Kingman and a lot of the feedback seems geared more towards questions from couples/retirees. So, I have to ask what you all think life might be like for a 25 year old, single, female, master's educated professional with a potential job over at the regional medical center. Are there many young people around town or in the surrounding areas?

I currently live and work in Boston, MA and have been here my entire life. Let's just say the growing disrepect amongst us Ma$$holes and the winters are taking their respective tolls. PLUS, I have a 350 Z that I only get to drive a few months out of the year

The outdoor life seems very attractive and I'm into hiking/biking/ATVing and even shooting ranges. I wouldn't say I enjoy dance clubs but are there any watering holes where the young people congregate? Or gyms? Or even activity groups? Boston is a pretty busy place and I know there would be an adjustment.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Judging by the OP's post: what I bolded would preclude Wash DC in a heartbeat (I am a DC native, born and raised) and it sounds to me that after Boston's frenetic way of life, she would be happier here in Arizona. I do agree that Kingman is not a Yuppie mecca, I lived on and off in Mohave County from 2000-06.

The notion that one should move to the Phoenix to ESCAPE the hustle and bustle of the Boston area is absolutely ridiculous. The population of Boston is 500,000. The population of Phoenix is 1,300,000. It's also too hot there for outdoor sports most of the year, and the air is bad. Plus, there is the minor detail that Kingman is where her job is.

City of Phoenix population is closer to 1,500,000.........and that is not counting Scottsdale, Mesa, Tempe, Peoria, etc. for a grand total of ca. 4 million folks--------which equals the Wash DC area.

Otherwise; you are spot-on, 'dog

Yes, Phoenix does have more people, but it is far from hustle and bustle, especially compared to large cities in the US, including Boston.

It's not ridiculous to say Phoenix is an escape compared to Boston. You place those 500,000 from Boston in such a smaller land area. It is corwded and lous. Phoenix may have more people, but it is so spread out, you do not get the same hustle and bustle vibe of Boston.

Her potential job is in Kingman. I recommended she spend some time there before jumping at the job opportunity.

It's a good idea, but she may well not have that luxury of time.

Sorry for being away from this thread for so long. I'm actually coming to visit April 8, 9, and 10. Not a whole lot of time, but I'm taking a red eye home. I'll have all of Thursday afternoon, Friday after my interview, and Saturday to check things out.

What do I NEED to see/do?

Let's just say the stereotypical yuppie and I would not mix
