I would like to think that a quartet kept its name when it became a quintet or acquired an extra non-singing musician or something. I know it's fun to poke at them, but even a fundamentalist can count accurately to five.
Now the sign ... that's harder to explain away. So maybe I'm wrong about at least some fundies.
Let's not forget the famous Three Musketeers - Athos, Porthos, Aramis, and D'Artagnan.
