I'm thankful I still have teeth and am not senile...yet

Okay for Shep's post..I am thankful to myself for regular dental appointments and for taking my Vitamin B 12 supplement twice a day
And when I do wrong it is my own fault, not the devils..I really mean that

Why not just be thankful (period)?

We don't have to follow a religious construct.
Chielgirl, 99% of the time when I say 'thanks' I am saying it directly to a person for something they have done for me. So, I guess I don't see being thankful to something as a religious construct. And I am probably just thankful (period) the rest of the time.

How is that??
Shepsmom, You are so right. I should thank myself more. I worked very hard to make my life the way I want it to be. I am my own lucky star!

Thanks Freedom for your input, although I am not quite sure what you were trying to say.

I started this thread as a light escape from the Sarah Palin thread

If you want to thank anyone, thank yourself for making your own efforts and rewards.

What does that do?....thanking yourself? Whats the point?

Are one's actions not understood as the prime mover, be it good or bad?

godspeed,

I think the point is that if we can't thank (love) ourselves, how can we love anyone else? How can we have any self confidence?
Dontcha just hate to be told to tell yourself that you are a filthy, dirty, vile sinner It is very hard to thank, forgive, or love yourself for that "scare tactic" which I have heard over, over, over and again..

The OP isn't speaking of love... they are speaking of thankfulness.

How does one thank themselves?

godspeed,

For any successes or happiness you may have found in your life are the result of one's own actions and not having been lead or guided by some deity.
It makes more sense to be proud of yourself than to credit it to something imaginary.

Is thankfulness to yourself pride?

And if so, what is the value of pride?

godspeed,

freedom

I am thankful that I was raised in a good home and for the positive influence of my family. However a great deal of what I have is just the result of sheer luck. For example I was fortunate to have been born in a nation that was prosperous and has opportunities if you're willing to work for them. I could just as easily been born in some poverty ridden war torn nation in Africa. It's also just a matter of luck that I've been healthy all of my life when I could just as easily suffered a serious medical condition that would have ruined or even ended my life. There's really no one to thank for those things. I suppose I could give myself a little credit for being a dependable and hard worker for many years which has helped me economically but it seems a little silly to pat yourself on the back for that. There's millions of people around the world who have worked much harder than I have but due to varying circumstances have little to show for it. Let's just say that I feel fortunate and lucky.
