I have a pretty good life. I am not at all wealthy, but I have a life I am very happy with. I am thankful for so many things. I have always wondered how other atheists think about thankfulness. I have always felt strange using that word. It seems to imply one is thankful to something. People often call god that something. I am 100% god free. So can anyone think up a better word? Or another way of looking at it?

I always thank the universe when I'm sufficently moved by something.

Or there's always "thanking your lucky stars!" which I also like.

Yeah, I like the lucky stars one too.

I guess I employ the thankfullness to the universe one when really big stuff happens that I can't quite believe and I'm left wondering about the randomness of the universe, and kaos theory and how many things had to line up and bounce off each other in order for this great thing to happen to me.

In a pinch there's always thank goodness.

I'm fairly certain we have some silly Aussie ones but they escape me at the moment. I'll see if I can remember and post them for you later if they spring to mind.

I'm just thankful to the people around me. It's the small things such as a floormate giving me tea when I'm sick that make me rejoice.

Why do you have to be thankful to anything?
Why not just be thankful (period)?

We don't have to follow a religious construct.

I view it as thankful for the good things, whence-and wherever they arise.

I would like to thank our producer for his inspiriation. I would also like to thank the sound engineers for a wonderful job on mixing the album. Lastly, I would like to thank all you fans...all the metal-heads out there...for making it happen. Without you, all of this is meaningless. THIS ONE'S FOR YOU!!!!

Ok, just practicing.

I think the challenge of definition is that those that feel we are spiritual and physical have different vocabularies to explain the unseen energies.

Love
Thankfulness
Hope
Fear
Anger

I think its difficult to disprove these emotional entities that can enhance or detract from our lives, thus giving the unseen elements a powerful position in our lives, separate from religious speak. In essence the vibrations of the unseen are the most real things in our lives, regardless of personal belief.

godspeed,

freedom

Don't you think you are out to thank yourself? You are the only one who make things happen, you "employ" others to help you on your way, so you thank them as you go, but for all the good that happen to you, you thank yourself for your efforts. Also, for all the bad things that happen to are to blame yourself, and no one else.

How is that??
