Freedom, my friend, you sound as though you consider atheists to be similar to unfeeling robots. Every human being, irregardless of their religious beliefs or lack of them has emotions and human feelings. That's just the nature of being human. I referred to my good fortune because that's exactly what it is, I could just as easily have had the misfortune to have a brain tumor like a friend of mine had in High School and then end up as a vegetable when the operation to remove it went terribly wrong.
People don't have to be religious to have morals and I believe I'm a very moral and decent person and I also believe that many of the other atheists on this forum appear to be the same way. In fact I disagree that a strong sense of justice is not based on reason and logic, it most certainly is. Religious people have not cornered the market on civility, morals, ethics and caring for each other despite the fact that so many of them toot their own horn. So are you up for a Saturday night debate?
I'm not comparing religion and atheist.
What is it that allows feeling, and thankfulness in the posture of those that rely on reason and logic for their definition of existence?
Thank F%*k! is a popular one around these parts. Probably not to everyone's taste and I have no idea how it developed but it is generally used as a exclaimation of relief.
I would like to thank our producer for his inspiriation. I would also like to thank the sound engineers for a wonderful job on mixing the album. Lastly, I would like to thank all you fans...all the metal-heads out there...for making it happen. Without you, all of this is meaningless. THIS ONE'S FOR YOU!!!!

godspeed,

As moonshadow says it's neuroscience, more specifically it's evolutionary psychology. I'll also add sociology into the pot but really, even those who believe in a god should agree that there are very sound and logical reasons for as to why we have these seemingly illogical feelings though our reasons may differ.

neuroscience and evolutionary psychology?
Those are disciplines that study and try to explain the unseen elements of emotion/feelings. They aren't the actual reality of what draws us to be thankful or prideful or hopeful.

Sociology looks at the way we behave, E.P looks at the purpose of the way we act and neuroscience tends to look at the physical aspect of it such as how our amygdala(Almond shaped bit in our brains) starts firing up whenever we experience something emotional.

I'm sorry, I confused the original intent of your question. You see I thought you wanted to know our opinions on how feelings like thankfulness, jealousy or guilt fit in with what we believe about the reallity around us but it turns out you are just interested in saying we are wrong. This ended up being a pointless question.
