There's merit to this, but you can't hold back progression. Georgia is a state that is hostile to lower classes so their chances were probably nil even if they had merit, which I think they do, though not for what you might think.

Longer term, I would argue, this issue may cause real damage. Look at South Africa. It's a good reason to look to live elsewhere in other states that do not have this toxic stew brewing in the water.

Where do you get this? Please site some sources to show how the State of Georgia is "hostile to lower classes" and please define "lower classes." Is that code for black or minority? So is your accusation is that Georgia is still a racist state? Is Georgia somehow to be compared to South Africa?

And I must warn you ... alot of the people who are apart of the growing non-black population will not have that distrust and might vote for an incumbent, because they like the direction the city is moving in currently. Reed has a very vibrant pro-active image to him so far.
What direction? The same direction its been moving in since 1973? Reed is no different than any other of those mayors. He's part of the machine.

Atlanta is where it is today because of those 30,000 new residents. But these new residents aren't satisfied with the status quo. They envision a "New Atlanta", and have been working hard for 20 years to make that vision a reality. Unfortunately, as a machine mayor, Reed represents the past, the old Atlanta, the Atlanta of 1980, or 1990, or 2000. Reed could hang the moon, but at the end of the day he would still be part of the machine and therefore a relic of what Atlanta once was, not what its citizens want it to be.

Of course because the only people who have done anything are the hipsters who moved in town.

Some might say this was when Atlanta was at its most ambitious and prosperous.

You ignored the shenanigans of Sonny Perdue at every opportunity. I haven't heard much strong condemnation on your part & others like you of House Speaker David Ralston and his steering a couple of hundred thousand dollars towards an emergency life flight helicopter for his district, which by all accounts was not necessary.

Even if you do make some megative judgement of some of the Republican state leadership, it's usually a passing remark, and NOT with the same level of fire & brimstone disgust that you and others like yourself have for Atlanta & Dekalb's political leadership & CERTAINLY not for our current national Commander-in-Chief. It's like a gag reflex or something.

These things I notice very well, sir.

What? Who am I ignoring?

Dunwoody incorporated in Dekalb Co. Public Safety and Police protection was a prime issue. The former Police Chief in Dekalb left under a cloud with the implicit involvement of Vernon Jones in the scandal. Now the current Dir of Public Safety in Dekalb is under investigation.

Not sure what "foibles of others" you feel I'm ignoring, but I assure you that I'm an equal opportunity hater of gov't corruption and waste. I also am not a fan of those who use race and the race card to score political points.

Again...the premise of this lawsuit is that Republicans rushed through the incorporation of these cities to somehow create "white super-majorities" that are alleged to be in violation of the Voting Rights Act. The implicit accusation is that the folks behind the move to incorporate in Sandy Springs, Milton, Johns Creek, Chattahoochee Hills, and Dunwoody are racist. Now you either believe that or you don't....and I don't.

And so it begins. The implosion of Atlanta with opposing, dichotomic forces at play here.

Let's lay some cards on the table.

1) Perdue and all the good ol' boy, small-minded, white Republicans are idiots. Acidsnake you are right in calling out people here who give free passes to these fumbling, biblethumping idiots who still think it's 1950, BUT...

2) That does not change the fact that tax dollars in Fulton flow north to south. This lawsuit is nothing but frivolous. The black leadership that relies on these north county taxes are petrified that without this revenue, their jobs will be in jeopardy. When their political base gets pissed after services get cut and crime rises and there are no funds to fix the problems, guess who's going to be voted out of office? They're playing the game just as much as all the white repugnant Republicans at the state level. Pandering to the base to protect their jobs.

So welcome to the South. Time to jump ship, because progressive politics need not apply here.

Oh and Neil, even though I'm as liberal as they come, I can live with some of your libertarian policies and a few of your points I agree with. But you need to move back up North (and quickly), where true libertarians are as atheist as I am. You'll be much happier.

To what "shenanigans" do you refer. You may disagree with his policies, and I had some differences with him too, but at least for the time that I've lived here (since 2007), he was never accused of any wrongdoing. Please enlighten me.

If you remember, I did come out against Deal in the election. I was not happy with his ethics. So far though, I have been pleasantly surprised.

Again, I'm aware of the helicopter incident, which I'll admit I only know a little about. I'm not aware of anyone alleging that anything illegal took place. Unnecessary doesn't mean illegal.

To be honest, while I disagree with the religious crap, and I don't always like the redneck twinge that some of the good ole boys have, when I compare the GA Legislature to their corrupt and socialist counterparts in Massachusetts, they are a breath of fresh air. Not sure I understand what you'd like me to complain about.

On top of all that....nothing any Republican does makes this lawsuit proper or a good thing. Two wrongs don't make a right, which seems to be your argument. The topic is about this racially motivated lawsuit. It's wrong and frivolous.

I think you're onto something here. There's a lot of BS in Georgia politics surrounding the race issue, and to be fair it comes from both sides.

I'm not a fan of the bible thumpers and good ole boys, and agree that sometimes they can be small minded...but generalize much?

Could you imagine if someone made the same kind of generalization aimed at black politicians? The reaction would be harsh and rightly so. I seem to recall that many of the black Democrats like Vincent Fort support the religious, small minded position in favor of keeping the ban on Sunday alcohol sales.
