Not the nicest of welcomes: Couple held at gunpoint by new neighbours who threatened to shoot them after thinking they were burglars | Mail Online

WTF... so much for bringing over a pie.

Now perhaps these folks just want to let bygones be bygones, but it seems like they are within their rights to press charges on their neighbors including:

1. Trespassing with a deadly weapon
2. Criminal confinement with a deadly weapon (felony)
3. Criminal threatening with a deadly weapon (felony)

And then when the jackass gun-slingers go to jail and their house gets sold, the new homeowners can greet whoever ends up moving in with pie.

What do YOU feel is the appropriate balance between discretion and a neighborly welcome? Would you hold someone at gunpoint if they couldn't produce papers indicating they owned the home? Would you want your neighbors to extend the same courtesy to you?

That's BS. Idiots like that should be thrown in jail for a long time.

Who the hell honestly thinks a middle aged black man and white woman are going to rob an abandoned house?

No one has the right to pull a gun on another person unless someone's life is at risk from their actions of their OWN PROPERTY is being threatened.

The first thing I thought of when i read this:

1. He's got a grow op in his house
2. Methlab

I'd hate to think that way about a neighbor, especially the next door, but how are you supposed to deduce from this incident?

That is awful. They had to spend the night in jail...craziness. It said that the real estate person said they owned the house. Why wasn't their agent called when it happened or the bank if they didn't have the documentation with then at that moment? After they got out you would think they would have their agent put it back on the market..what kind of neighborhood is that? Block Parties and Neighborhood Garage sales are going to be interesting.

I hope, they press charges against the neighbors and sue them and Newton County Sheriff office as well.

That was one unreasonable cop! Couldn't the new homeowners put the key in the lock to show they were the likely owners?

Wonder what time of day these people were out changing locks. If there were random people walking around the next door house at night, I might question them. Certainly wouldn't just pull a gun on them though!

^This.

People simply cannot think it's OK to be vigilantes. If they thought someone was breaking in, all they had to do was call the cops and leave it at that.

And look at what this fool said:

"I don't know what they can charge me with," Canoles said late Monday afternoon, before the interview with authorities. "This is my Second Amendment right. Look, this is the county out here, and we protect our own."

SMDH...

Sooooooo...what happened to the neighbors?? This B.S. has got to stop. They need to sue the Sherrifs office and the neighbors.
