No need to wait. They're still open. The tree falling on their dining room only caused them to close for one or two days.

They have a huge tent covering the patio now.

We ate there a couple weeks ago. The fans they have out there put out gale force winds. Hopefully now that it's getting cooler out they won't need the fans. They still have a dining room. When I go back, I'll ask to sit inside.

Atlanta's got zillions of unique local restaurants.

Although many chains are just fine, the key to learning any city's cuisine is to force yourself to get out of your comfort zone.

The next time you feel yourself turning into a chain restaurant, just say no. Instead, go to the nearest local establishment -- it doesn't matter what it is -- and check it out. Even in the unlikely event it doesn't suit you, you've eliminated an unknown and enlarged your dining universe.

Before long your spirit of adventure will take over and you'll soon be immersed in the world of local eats!

With apps like Yelp and GPS enabled devices, it's relatively easy to avoid the terrible places.

I'd do a quick bit of research on any unknown place before going to make sure it doesn't have universally terrible reviews.

Just saw all the posts. Thanks guys!! I'm looking for healthy places, not that I'm above a good burger or taco at times, but I'd love to try some really great healthy food. My roommate is vegetarian and it's hard sometimes to find a place that is great for the both of us. Thanks again for all the suggestions EDIT: Oh, and I live in the Sandy Springs area.

I lived in ATL several years ago, and took my then-girlfriend (now-wife) to Bones. She's from Houston, and knows a good steak when she has one. She still says that Bones is the best steak she's ever eaten, and I agree.

I find that eating at restaurants that cater to a Muslim or Buddhist clientele offer a good mix of items and will clearly label items as having meat in them or not. Busy Bee downtown and several Buford Hwy Chinese places come to mind. Ethiopian and Persian places also usually have vegetarian options alongside several meat/seafood selections.

Most restaurants will change up a menu item to suit dietary needs...places that won't will say "no substitutions" (either you are paying for a high end prix fixe tasting or its a super cheap special).

Then definitely check out The Flying Biscuit. My wife is a vegetarian and she can always find something there that she likes. In fact, there's one in Sandy Springs on Roswell Road.
