Thanks for sticki-ing this thread, I found some good school research links. I have been using greatschools.net, but some of the other ones are helpful a well. Most of the links are on Page 1.

Generally, DeKalb gives principals two years to prove themselves or fail.

In Lakeside's case, things are complicated because of underlying issues that make it unclear who is to cause.

I am not at all supporting Dr. Lewis or the Lakeside principal-- just saying that it isn't such a clear picture there.

Just wanted to set the record straight that the shooting story is NOT TRUE, at least not in Oakhurst. Thanks to cmtiger for setting me straight.

Regarding Oakhurst, your coworker may have been thinking of an incident at the middle school in Kirkwood (just east of Oakhurst, but in Atlanta, not Decatur). This happened about a year ago, but it had NOTHING to do with the school. The shooting occurred on a Sunday on the school grounds. Neither the perpetrator nor the victim were in any way associated with the school (both were adults/older teens). Because of where it happened many people thought it involved middle school students; it did not.

Good morning, my family and I recently moved to Atlanta from California and I'm curious...do any of the Atlanta or Decatur public elementary/middle schools do year around schooling? I knew of several in California, but haven't seen it mentioned here. (This thread is FANTASTIC, what great knowledge and sharing!)

Thanks in advance,

Kinzie

Default Decatur does not do year around schooling

I don't see it there at any time in the near future in Decatur. They recently looked at it and the parents went nuts so I don't see them even bringing it up again in the forseeable future.

In Atlanta, I believe Centennial Elementary is year around.

Anyone know when the new CRCT scores aggregated by school will be made public?

You can get them on ajc.com apparently the Atlanta Journal requested and got them early from most school systems. Cobb would not release theirs but most other metro area districts are on their site. All will be made public on July 2nd.
