Yeah true but realistically how many drivers really know this.

If they don't, then why are they allowed to drive?

But is the standard good enough? Just because it's a standard, doesn't mean it's a good standard, that's sufficient for every situation.

This is why I think that every eight years before renewing your driver's license, you should be required to take a one-day refresher course on the rules of the road. All of us have lapses in our driving knowledge banks and skill sets that requires periodic refreshment.

I don't know that they can really make it much better other than making more obvious signs. The nature of the interchange in itself is just prone to confusion for people who are not from the area or have never driven down William's St.

I actually used to get off I-75/85 on the Memorial Dr HOV ramp (I had passengers) and navigate Piedmont to Decatur St, followed onto Marietta St and made a right on Ted Turner Dr and cut across to William St during rush hour. I typically beat I-75/85 traffic doing that.

I'm not sure I'd agree how clearly-marked it is. It's a single little white banner over one of the signs which simply says "HOV Lane". Not "HOV Lane ONLY" Then there's a separate sign off to the far right of the road (two lanes over and partially obscured by a light pole and a tree) saying what HOV means. The banner on the main sign says nothing about 2+. For people who do not typically drive in large cities with HOV lanes, they might very well not know what that single small banner means. And if you get to this point, which is over 200 feet after the lane splits, you could mistake that sign meaning that the right lane is for south, and the left lane is for north.

Hardly think this qualifies as "shouldn't have a license" material.
