Downtown lands Coca-Cola IT center, 2,000 jobs - Atlanta Business Chronicle

Quote:
The Coca-Cola Co. is launching an Atlanta IT center that will house almost 2,000 jobs to the heart of downtown.

Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO) will put its “Information Technology Center of Excellence” at SunTrust Plaza’s Garden Offices. The location emerged as the favorite earlier this year to land Coke’s operations. The six-story Garden Offices were completed at the end of the dot-com boom in 2000 and outfitted with wide-open floor plans and lots of natural light to draw high-tech workers.

By the middle of next year, the IT center “will bring together nearly 2,000 of our Atlanta-based information technology associates and contractors in one central location to further improve the efficiency of our operations,” Coca-Cola spokesman Kent Landers said in an email.

I wouldn't call Suntrust Plaza the "heart of downtown." It's more like "almost midtown" or if we're using body parts as metaphors, "the tip of downtown's outstretched finger."

Well for those of you that say downtown is dead, and cannot get any companies. Coke Cola carries significant weight Globally. Huge win for Downtown Atlanta.

This is like calling the Civic Center area the heart of Midtown.

It is very hard to figure out.

It is definitely downtown.

North Ave. would be the tip of the outstretched finger.

It is only a few blocks from the Fairlie-poplar district. It is right next to the major convention hotels. A few blocks away from the world of coke, the aquarium, and Centennial Park.

It doesn't get much more downtown than that.

There's a pretty reasonable argument to be made that the precise heart of Downtown is International & Peachtree, which is 3 blocks walking from the building. Saying the building is in the heart of Downtown is fine.

The Civic Center isn't even in Midtown, so that's much different. This is like saying the High is in the heart of Midtown: you could argue that 14th and Peachtree is the heart of Midtown, and the High is a couple blocks from that.

Either is fine imo.
