"The future stadium will have an Atlanta address, but it’s located in Cobb County between I-75, I-285 and Cobb Parkway."

I was reading this in article Study: Pedestrian access a challenge for new Braves stadium | www.ajc.com

Does anyone know why this is allowed? Just in general to have the Cumberland area have an Atlanta address but be in Cobb. This is a way, IMO, to use the "Atlanta brand" and not pay the same as real Atlantans. Again, IMO, if you use the Atlanta name you should pay what Atlanta pays, including the MARTA tax. Seems like something a lot of the burbs are good for, using up Atlanta when it feels the need and then down talk the area like Atlanta is no good.

I hate that!

I believe, though, that if the Atlanta brand is valuable in developing the metro area, that it should be used, even outside of the city limits. What's good for the whole region in which the city finds itself is generally good for the city.

Thanks for this info; it makes complete sense when you look at it like that.

I completely agree with you. I just hate how the burbs, particularly Cobb, try to do so much to not be part of Atlanta but still get the benefits of using the Atlanta name. It just grinds my gears!

Btw, at the time that area had the Atlanta zip code, Atlanta wasn't really a brand that people actually wanted. It was before the Cumberland CID even existed, during the time of mass flight from the city.

You're making one heck of a generalization. Perhaps it's not Cobb people that don't want to associate with Atlanta, but just your incorrect perception? I recommend removing the chip off your shoulder and getting rid of the us vs them attitude. You are doing everything that you seem to despise. Just in reverse.

Sure, Cobb is competitive with Atlanta. Why wouldn't it be? It's not even the same county, so of course it's going to compete. Or at least try to. The competition is healthy, and makes our whole metro area stronger.

It's historically always been Atlanta zip there.

Nearly all of Hartsfield is outside the city limits of Atlanta. I'm guessing you wouldn't have a problem with everyone calling it College Park Airport, right?

To be fair, it is owned by the city.

According to the US Census, Metro Atlanta has a population of 6 million+. We are all Atlanta residents as far as I'm concerned, and most anyone across the country would view it that way as well. It doesn't take anything away from Atlanta or cost any money for someone living in Douglasville to say he's from Atlanta.
