I never heard that before.

I do remember when downtown Decatur wasn't one of the best areas and Fayette County had the best schools in the state and DeKalb County had great schools and the number one police force in the country (How times have changed).

I just bought a home in Tucker and it is a nice area full of old people but it has always been considered "old money".

I'll repeat : How can you take any list of "Best Atlanta Suburbs" seriously that doesn't even list PTC?! Heaven knows I'm a Fayetteville boy, and thus both culturally and genetically inclined to dislike the *people* of PTC (if not the place itself). But I still recognize an epic omission when I see one.

I know right! Alpharetta and good commute doesn't belong in the same sentence.

Well I guess this is the best place to post my question..

I'm looking to move from Los Angeles to Atlanta and will be taking a job at Georgia Power in Downtown.

I'll be looking for a family friendly suburb with great schools, decent sized lot, 2000+ sqft, price range is 350 to 450 K (I live in the city but I still have 1/4 acre Lot). I drive don't really use public transportation. Just like any young family me and my wife love parks, working out, restraunts, shopping. Were both african american in our late 20s with one baby boy and looking to have a couple more kids in the future. We want an area with established youth leagues so when my boy gets older he can get into sports.

I hear a lot of good things about Alpharetta but I hear about the horrible commute and I just dont want to sit in traffic all day I've done a lot of that out here. But i'm willing to if Alpharetta is just that much better.

Thanks locals, i've given advice to people looking to move to the LA area so I appreciate the time you all take out to respond to posts.

Do you agree with this list? is this a great place to start?

O_O! Stone Mnt. being ranked number 1 in amenities. I just don't see that.

Consider the Tucker area and also inside 285 along Briarcliff Rd. and Lavista. Good value and relatively easy commute.

You are absolutely correct. Tyrone and Fayetteville but not Peachtree City or Newnan?!?! Have these people even visited Tyrone? It's a stip mall or two with some nice homes on the way down to PTC.
