I have lived in the Atlanta metro for 10 years now. We just sold a home in Tucker and moved to Kennesaw. We have no children and I work downtown, so some people think we are crazy. However, we were ready for a change. We now own a home that directly borders the Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield park so we have accessible trails and peaceful tranquility in our backyard. While I have found the commute to be a pain, for the most part it is better than I thought, as I am an early riser and leave work on the later side for the commute home.

Anyway, back to my feelings on Tucker. We lived in new home (built in 2006) infill basically at the corner of Cooledge and Lawrenceville Highway. Our home sold in two days back in February of this year but for a decent amount less than we paid for it due to the deterioration of the school system. Not to mention the crime...we were broken into two times (one with an alarm and once without) and once someone tried to climb through a window thinking we were not home. This was not in a "horrible" area either. We heard gun shots fairly regularly. It was not like than in 2006, but deteriorated during the recession.

Honestly, I loved the house itself and my yard was beautiful. My commute was better and I miss the DeKalb Farmers' market horribly. However, I honestly did not feel safe in my home any longer and my husband travels a decent amount for work. I am sure someone will criticize me for this, but for me, I want to feel safe while at home and the fact that downtown Tucker had a couple of cute restaurants was just not enough.

You are right. I guess the recent cityhood proposals for it combined with it being the most "iincorporated" unincorporated area in the area made me miss it. Good call.

Doesn't make the list any better.

Yeah, our offices are in Tucker. I feel it is improving but has a ways to go.

My mom used to work near Tucker (and I did as well for a summer). Was never crazy about the area. Was fine during the day but I wouldn't want to stick around at night.

At least something from Fayette county made the list. I don't know what I would've done if nothing from Fayette county made it.

I agree with Alpharetta's overall rank. We stay at a hotel there every time we visit...my father and I always stop by the cigar shop on Windward Pkwy before leaving.

I'm surprised that Marietta wasn't top 10 though...maybe this doesn't surprise the locals(?)
