Here is another piece from Democratic former Georgia state Representative LaDawn "LBJ" Jones on Georgia political website GeorgiaPol.com where Jones urges Georgia Democrats to not "take the bait" and play right into Republican hands by making the 2018 Democratic gubernatorial primary between Stacey Abrams and Stacey Evans a race-baiting contest between African-American female urban/suburban voters and white female suburban voters...

Quote:
Republicans think white suburban women could be the lynchpin of the November gubernatorial election. Some Democrats believe shoring up the black woman base like Doug Jones did in Alabama is the lynchpin. Who is right? BOTH. There is no secret sauce. Winning the votes of people is the key. Getting your base to the polls is the key. Arguing about which part of your base is the most important, the most valid, the most relevant, IS NOT THE KEY! I am watching the Republicans play on the sensitivities of the Democrats to increase the divide within the party. Pay attention.

Take the recent Politico article where the question, again, is around the race of the two Democrat candidates and their voters. The article, like many others, explores whether black women or suburban white women are the key to a win for Democrats. Democrats have an opportunity to address race without making it the sole issue of the debate. But will they?

This is a news that Georgia Republicans will very much welcome in their efforts to retain firm control of Georgia's state government and Georgia's political apparatus going into what potentially could be a challenging 2018 national mid-term election season.

At a recent gathering of conservatives in California, the Freedom Partners (a conservative political advocacy supergroup backed by conservative libertarian super-funder brothers Charles and David Koch) committed to spend as much as $400 million to support Republican candidates and to help the Republican Party keep their majorities in national politics.

Quote:
Even at a gathering of conservatives in the California desert, there was no denying among attendees the successes of Democratic candidates in recent elections and their likelihood of even more victories in the November races. Still, the well-heeled donors at the Freedom Partners’ event appears committed to spending as much as $400 million in support of the candidates and free-market policies backed by the influential group.

“We’re all in. We know the challenges,” Tim Phillips, president of Americans for Prosperity, said Saturday. “We’ve seen the results that these policies are having on Americans.”

The argument Philips and others at the event made against the projected Democratic tide is that the policies coming from Washington this past year, especially the recently passed tax reform law, are good for America, even if Americans don’t yet know it.

With an exceptionally close relationship with Georgia's fast-growing and domineering corporate community and with the 2018 Georgia gubernatorial race having some degree of potential to be more competitive than gubernatorial races in recent statewide election cycles, this is especially good news for a high-profile and corporate-connected political candidate like Georgia Republican Lt. Governor Casey Cagle who may very well be the most business-friendly and most corporate-connected candidate ever to run for Governor in Georgia's history.

With his exceptionally close relationships and connection to Georgia's corporate community, Cagle is likely to be a beneficiary of the massive mid-term spending that conservative groups like the Koch brothers-backed Freedom Partners have committed to during a very-competitive 2018 Congressional mid-term and national gubernatorial election environment.

The left-leaning online magazine "The Intercept_" wrote up a synopsis of the 2018 Georgia governor's race through the lens of progressive activists.

The write-up focused in on, measured and critiqued the level of progressivism of the campaign platforms of 2018 Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidates Stacey Abrams and Stacey Evans.

The article also delved into and did some advocacy on progressive issues like income and economic inequality, marijuana legalization, education funding, living wage/minimum wage increases and health care/Medicaid expansion while asking why Democratic gubernatorial candidates like Abrams and Evans had not fully embraced a more progressive campaign platform based on these populist progressive issues and criticizing them for seemingly not doing so.

Quote:
The incoming governor has a chance to embrace the wave of populism sweeping the country and get the ball rolling on policies that would alleviate the problems, such as income inequality, troubling many Georgia voters. But so far, neither Abrams nor Evans has developed a platform that would do much to move the needle on these issues.

Meanwhile...

Current 2018 Georgia Republican gubernatorial primary and overall gubernatorial race frontrunner Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle recently sat down for an interview with high-profile Georgia-based conservative political pundit, opinion writer and provocateur Erick Erickson.

Erickson and Cagle met to talk about the governor's race and Georgia politics during the current 2018 session of the Georgia General Assembly.

Here is the link to the video of the interview that was posted to Facebook...

On this past Thursday, Georgia Lt. Governor Casey Cagle sat down with Scott Slade for a wide-ranging interview on GPB's Lawmakers. The interview was conducted shortly after Cagle had participated in a conference call with the White House on the issue of Infrastructure.

Amongst the major issues that were discussed were:

> The roughly $49 million that has been allocated to the State of Georgia from the White House for the Port of Savannah harbor deepening project...

> The desire by state government to expand access to broadband internet service to rural areas throughout the state...

> The growing debate over income tax reform at the state level that has arisen after the passage into law of tax reform at the federal level back in December...

> A burgeoning effort to expand high-capacity transit service to parts of the Atlanta metro area outside of the current MARTA service area of Fulton, DeKalb and Clayton counties.

Proud of my Senator Jordan for fighting that ridiculous Eagle's Landing ordeal. And the one Republican from Buford who broke ranks, she deserves credit as well.

I'm glad that Cagle is pro-transit.
