They don't allow professional photography and videography, which is maybe what you're talking about.

I’ve also read about this several times on various sites such as Reddit and on Facebook.

That has been my observation, that security will ask people with professional-type cameras to stop taking pictures. But the avg Instagrammer on a phone will not be approached.

Other than smoking, what is it that folks would like to do in the AS "park" that they cannot because it is not owned by a public entity?

Smoking is a poor example, because that is not allowed in City of Atlanta parks, either. Typical activities you'd see in a public park that are not allowed:

Political demonstrations and handing out materials of any kind.

Unaccompanied minors after 6 pm.

Family/group size restricted to four children per adult.

Taking your shoes or shirt off.

Use of photography equipment that looks like a camera and not a phone, regardless of whether you're a professional or a hobbyist.

Playing of musical instruments.

Skateboarding.

That's just a few.

Okay. Fair enough! I can understand many of these restrictions since it is a relatively small place. But, I wonder why you cannot use a camera to take pictures there???

They assume you're a professional and are going to sell the photos. I guess they figure it's cutting into their postcard and coffee table book sales.

Whoa. Touched a nerve there I guess. Belittling? He said photography isn't allowed. That seems very odd as I've taken dozens of pictures there on my phone. I was trying to see what he actually meant. Photography is allowed, just not professional photography.

Seems peculiar to me, too.

You're still wrong. Amateur photography, using actual cameras, will get you run off by security. The only photography allowed, and that goes unquestioned, is cell phone photography.
