My husband and I are planning on relocating in the next six months. We are expecting a child soon and would like to find an area with other young families. We're looking for homes (max $250k) to buy with good schools? Any hints? My husband has a job offer in Atlanta, Savannah, and Augusta.

How do you compare. The cost of living, friendliness, downtown activity, and whats there to do.

We are expecting too and are on our way to Augusta in January because of a job offering. Savannah would have been wonderful, but no jobs for our fields. When is your baby due?

Atlanta is where the jobs are. It has the Mountains near by as well. Savannah is a very nice city with a southern charm. It has alot of jobs in its ports and Gulf Stream is there too. Hilton Head is also a huge plus for Savannah as well. They also have probably the most lively downtown in Georgia as well. Augusta has well ... the Masters and well... thats about it. Not much to it the other 358 days out of the year. The jobs are very limited there as well unless if you are in the military or a nurse.

Hands down Augusta wins this in three out of the four. We have a cheaper cost of living than Atlanta or Savannah, are definately friendlier than either of the two, our downtown activity is not as vibrant as Savannah but it's close and gaining (if you are talking nightlife) and as far as what's there to do Atlanta may have more but who wants to live there anyway?

Your best bet is Augusta, our economy is alive and well.

Augusta has lots to offer in 2009. Our economy is the best in GA. 6th best building market, 21st best housing market, 23rd strongest economy, #11 on the fastest recovering job markets.

That is the 6th best building market in the country also, not just the state. We are alive and well in/around Augusta.

Apparently 5 million+ people do. Be proud of your city, but let's not get carried away.

I agree, that post was a bit cocky chevyguy lol. in realty Augusta, Georgia does not compare to Atlanta, Georgia at all, that is not the city to pick a fight with lol I could see Augusta being compare to Columbia, since they are so close in numbers (population that is) the 2 cities resemble a bit also in size
