I'd seriously look into D/FW or Houston area hospitals. Austin isn't going to pay you near what you should be making, but hey if you're dead set on Austin by all means go for it if you don't mind being paid less & having a higher cost of living. A decent small 1 bedroom apartment in Austin will set you back about $700-750 per month.

I'm actually going to rent in Cedar Park. By the sounds of it, the RN wages in Austin are comparable to the wages here in Grand Rapids, MI. I have three years experience in Med Surg, Telemetry and step down ICU. I also have worked homecare concurrently. Any suggestions on hospitals or places of employment for home care or hospital? I've heard of St. David's, Seton and Texas Home healthcare. Any information on those places or other suggestions? Thanks to all of you for all the information. I don't know the area too well and any information is of much value to me.

In San Antonio, it depends on your years of experience. You can make up to $30 an hour along with earning diffs that go up to $8 an hour. Some facilities will offer a "no benefit" option which is up to $3 an hour. Some of the San Antonio nurses can earn up to $48 per hour for a staff nurse position.

There is a hospital in the Northeast area of San Antonio which is only about 45 mins from Austin. It is part of the HCA umbrella - very large healthcare system and pays well.

FYI: You'd probably get better responses from Austin RN's & other medical professionals if you placed your thread in the Austin sub-forum, rather than Texas at-large. This thread seems to belong there.
