I just moved to the Austin area about a month ago from VA and my allergies are at an all time high. The only time I git allergies in VA was the change from spring to summer!

Austin is one of the worst cities for allergy sufferers in the country.

Unfortunately, the Austin area isn't a great place for allergy sufferers. If you're not already taking a Claritin a day, you might want to start. It actually helps a lot. Cedar Fever hits in January and that's when most people I know suffer.

Never! Fall trees and ragweed now, then ceder fever (nov-march), then spring trees, then mold at any time plus high concentrations of airborne dust during the summer, (smoke from S. America, dust with animal dung from Africa), and then repeat!

you are not alone, my friend! This is the first year I've had allergies and it is absolutely miserable. It makes me sad because the weather gets amazing and I go outside to enjoy it and pay dearly with bug bites and head explosion. I still worked in the garden today. Sometimes I just don't care how much I'm going to pay. The weather is heavenly and I'm trying to catch all the breezes I can.

I was told by my doctor when I moved to Austin that although I was never allergic to anything before I moved there, that I would be before I knew it and he was right. It took about six months before my allergies went crazy so I had a bit of break initially. I don't know what makes Austin so unusual because it wasn't much different from the places I have lived before or after it, but it was the only place where I had some major allergy issues and my sinuses hated it there. Although I loved the city, I was glad when my company asked me to transfer to one of our other offices because I haven't had any seasonal allergy issues since.
I would find a great allergist who can help you pinpoint your allergies and find the best solution that works for you. I was lucky because Benadryl worked well for me. My allergies were always the worst at night (so bad that I would have to sleep sitting up) and the Benadryl made me drowsy enough that I could sleep well and worked well enough to eliminate the congestion I would get.
Good Luck! Austin is so beautiful but most people pay for it with allergies!

We have lived here since mid May and no allergy problems for us till about two weeks ago. Now both of my kids are living on Claritin.
