Reduce benefits and they will move to a town that is more receptive.

Aren't almost all the "benefits" for the homeless provided by private organizations?

OP, I don't think there's anyone out there that doesn't think homelessness is a problem. The reason nothing has been done is because people can't agree on a solution. Austin, short of becoming a cold climate and becoming a more uptight and busy-body culture, will always be a popular stopping point for homeless people, especially since other cities in the region are known for buying one-way bus tickets here. So the question you should be asking is, what is the cheapest and most effective way to address homelessness besides passing the buck?

Bingo, and bingo.

Here's an example of people in Austin addressing the homeless in a more human way.

Seems like that might increase the amount of homeless people in the area with the presumption that if I'm homeless elsewhere in the country and I make my way to Austin I will be given a tiny house of my own to live in...

Okay, so your solution to homelessness is to shove them on down the road so that you don't have to see them?

What on earth has Austin become?

Wow, the hypocrasy. Your live in Georgetown, right? This was a Georgetown officer that shoved this kid on down the road to Austin. APD released a statement calling out Georgetown for this, and boy did APD sound pissed. Compassionate people in Austin are trying to dismiss the fact that we are getting dumped on, and this story is going to blow open into bigger issues because there are people in this town that know this incident is an indicator of a bigger problem. I wouldn't be surprised if there was legal action. Watch.

You are confused which thread you are in.....

OTOH, I can't find any statement from APD regarding the Georgetown PD. I am sure it is out there, but don't see it on the web atm.

Read the updated article from KXAN with quotes from the accused killers attorney. The accusation that the officer was the one who convinced the teen go to Austin is already been floated to Georgetown PD, and they declined to comment. The Austin Police Association prez said that other LEO's are dumping unwanted people in Austin and called it a "sad joke" and wanted to make it illegal. Austin has been denial this is happening, but now we have a dead student, and this situation is going to turn into a ****storm.
