Music scene in Austin:Metal? (Houston, San Antonio: live in, move to, bars)

I've heard that Austin has an excellent live music scene, which is excellent! However, I have not heard exactly what kinds of music. I am a death metal musician, and want to know how the metal scene is in Austin? Are there many Death metal bands(style like Deicide, Cannibal Corpse) Brutal Death metal bands(style like Dying Fetus, Suffocation) Technical Brutal Death metal bands (style like Necrophagist) or black metal bands(style like Carpathian Forest, Immortal) in Austin?? Is there a vibrant metal scene? I also enjoy jamming with others and want to know how easy it is to find others who play? Also, do you see metalers out and about around town? Thanks guys!

Metal is not huge here. But it is alive in the right bars. ; )
I think San Antonio has a bigger metal crowd.

Actually, I was under the impression that Austin had a pretty stout metal scene. Lots of places on Red River that cater to metal. I'm not involved in that scene though, so I can't give you too much more but I'll ask some friends.

I'm confused. You're in Seattle, playing up L.A., and saying people only come to TX because it's cheaper?

As far as metal, it's not huge in Austin, I agree it's probably larger in S.A. and there are quite a few around Houston too.

After I move to San Diego, I'll try to make a detour and come down for a bit on the way to visit family and friends in Arkansas
