If you believe Austin has a mosquito problem you are a snowflake. I camped out in the swamps in Louisiana as part of Scouts. One time it was a giant thunderstorm and we couldn't set our tents up. We had to setup our sleeping bags on top of tables under a shelter as the concrete floor of the open air pavilion was flooded. So imagine 50 tables all filled with sleeping bags. It was cool so we were in the sleeping bags but our faces were out. The next day our faces were covered in mosquito bites. Another Troop asked one of our guys "What happened to your face?" it was so bad.

So there can be no complaining of mosquitoes here. They are a minor nuisance but nothing will ever be as bad as what I experienced.

I'm by no means a "snowflake" and you must live in la la land if you think that the Austin doesn't have a mosquito problem. Just because it isn't as bad as a swampy environment doesn't make the problem non-existent. Hello, the weather is warm here. It doesn't matter if the humidity isn't that high. Warm weather = more mosquitoes. Mosquitoes breed in water the size of a tablespoon. I've told you that as long as there is vegetation, mosquitoes can do just fine in our arid environment and the perception of just walking out with open arms and getting a bite here and there is wishful thinking.

While spraying is not routine, there have been responsive public sprays in at least Williamson County, and people have died from West Nile here.

And they're more than just a "minor nuisance". I'm always eaten to near death in the summer, the bites leave scars, and my friend actually had a mild case of WNV. it's not pleasant and if you or anyone else doesn't believe me, too bad.

I'm from Houston. Mosquitoes are worse there for sure.

I've spend plenty of time on the Gulf Coast. Matagorda, Port O'Connor, Port Aransas, etc. MUCH worse there.

I 2nd the snowflake comment...

Listen if what I’ve said makes me a snowflake then whatever, I don’t give....I’m not out here to score tough points here.

It’s not a pissing match as to which location is worse. Austin area has its fair share of mosquitoes. My legs have scars from all the bites I’ve received. It matters not an iota to me if there are places that have it worse. Heck it’s worse in Nigeria. . Capiche?

Deluding people into thinking that it’s too hot for mosquitoes and that the mosquito population is negligible is crazy.

I guess my backyard in Austin was a mosquito haven because it was close to Shoal Creek and maybe that is why it was so bad. We literally could not go outside after dusk once the warm/hot weather hit without being bitten relentlessly...so we stayed inside all summer. Even my cat had bald ears/nose from scratching mosquito bites. The garlic smell from neighbor's "natural" repellants was overwhelming so we weren't the only ones bothered by it.

I'm out every day in the summer on my deck drinking beer at sunset and rarely if ever get bitten. It's literally paradise especially since the breeze is blowing almost every evening. In Louisiana there was no breeze whatsoever. I stand by my comment. Try camping out in a swamp one time.

Then you’re fortunate. And maybe being Cajun you’re too spicy. That’s not my experience nor the experience of many others.

I have heard that women get bit more than men so maybe that's it.
