actually it does , new zealand are claiming a better olympics than australia by virtue of the fact that they have three gold versus australias one , australia have about four times as many medals in total

china topped the medals table in 2008 despite having less medals overall than the usa , they rank countries in terms of gold,s won

One swallow doesn't make a summer.

The reputation of the Australian cricket team is fine. Their performance has been under parr. we just dominated for 15 years. One thing is certain... don't get too comfortable.

Sporting decline? No. Sport is too much part of the culture here, for better or worse. Its an average Olympics. We had many come second, thats how it goes sometimes.

You can tell a sore loser, by how they act when they're winning. There isn't much difference.

^Unfortunately I think that's what we've become - A nation of sore losers. We're not doing well, but at least we're getting Silver.

Yeah. I'm just thrilled that we send a team. As long as the competitors have good sporting spirit, I'm happy.

Some Australians are carrying on as if our competitors owe us medals. They don't. Someone has to teach us not to be a pathetic nation of sore losers. Congratulations to all none sore losing nations I say.

i think your downplaying things a little by labelling it an average games for australia , very poor would be more accurate i imagine

a sore loser is a sign of a winner

i only wish our media was more like the aussies , we had a girl who went into the final round of the sailing today with at worst , an 80% chance of a bronze ( having won three rounds last week ) let alone a silver or gold which she also was in the running for , she needed to come better than fifth but four came in ahead of her so ended up in fourth overall , all the media here are praising her to high heaven
