My first car was a 1972 MG Midget. My dad use to race it (a hobby of his)
and had to take the roll bar out before he gave it to me when I was 19.

A 1985 Ford LTD Crown Vitoria... Dark Grey. Now that car was a tank and one hell of a trooper. I had a sign fall on the carone day ( 4'x6", from 25' up ) it dented the right front side and the sign shattered ( literally).

Still miffed about that because i was young and the guy never did pay me for the body damage his sign did to my car.

Steelman and RedNC,

Do you two still have those cars? Or wish ya did now? I would LOVE a 65 Vette. Been looking for a Vette in that year/range for awhile.

Me: 1st car I owned was a 1981 Camaro. Yellow. Woohoo. She was a good car though.

Now, amoungst our regular drivers we now have my husbands dreams sitting in the garage: 1968 Camaro Convertible (red, red interior, white top). She is sweet. 1969 Camaro RS/SS (Cortez silver/black houndstooth interior). One bada$$ car. And NO, my kids will NOT be driving these babies.

Steelman, if you run across that El Camino, I want one. I told my oldest that is what they will get, a 65-70 El Camino. Of course she was/is petrified that she will have to drive it. Sad thing is, every old man in town would be chasing her.

Now, what would be your DREAM CAR?

Default Love Those Old Cars

My first car was a 1962 Ford Galaxie 500 (not XL) convertible with a 352 V-8 engine. Fire engine red. 3-speed cast iron Cruise-o-matic tranny. True convertible, double I-beam frame with X-shaped I-beam cross members. A tank, it weighed 4500 pounds.

My pals and I pulled the engine, took it to a speed shop in Elkridge, MD, had it bored & stroked, balanced & clearanced, Crower Hi-Rise cam & kit, TRW police pistons, Holley dual-feed carb, dual point distributor, put in a 3.89:1 Equi-Lock positraction rear end - da works. A bit radical at the time, but that's what guys were doing in the late 1960's, early 1970's.

Sucked the leaves off the trees when I went by. Speedo went to 120 and several times I took it right off the end of the gauge - out of sight - buried it. Barked the tires chaning gears when under full acceleration.

I drive a nice Toyota Camry now....have become a fine upstanding "citizen" who wouldn't think of such driving ever again. I'm lucky I didn't get buried those time when I buried that speedometer. God loves damned fools and Irishmen.

s/Mike

1966 Dodge Dart with a slant 6. It was a pretty cool car! I can't wait for the 2009 Hemi Challenger to come out though. That sweet ride is definitely gonna be in my garage!

No. I now have a 69 Corvette and 69 Camaro Z/28 for fun cars. I only regret not buying and keeping every 65 – 67 Corvette I could have in the 70’s when you couldn’t give them away.

You and me both. On the buying up all of those vettes and wanting the 06 one. drool...........
And what is really, really sad is how much trouble we can get into for being "into" these cars especially when I like them as much as dadof2. Gets pretty scary. Just glad we have a big garage (but we have run out of room). As the saying goes, "Who cares how big the house is. How big is the garage?"

My parents told me to sell it because it was just sitting around when I was stationed overseas. Hey, I resemble one of those old men, though I don't chase young gals as my 2004 Ford Taurus couldn't keep up! My oldest daughter (25 years old) calls my car a "Grandfather Car." I told her that I am a grandfather...your two kids helped me qualify."
